Jun 20th 2014 fishing trip

Good day everyone,
Just looking for some info on fishing in the Wellington area. We are going to be staying at Westlake Willows for the weekend (Jun 20th 2014) and hope to fish Lake Ontario for salmon or Lake trout whatever will be around then. I have never fished for Salmon or Lake Trout and have no idea what to use to catch them or what gear I will need. Any tips or info would be greatly appreciated. My boat is rigged with down riggers and I'm setting up a couple of down rigging rods as well for down there so best line to use as well. Cheers and thanks in advance for any help.

Agreed Scott knows the fishing very well. It will likely be too early for kings but should be lakers and bows around. Lakers that I have caught have been in tighter to the bonnet island in 100 fow or less. Caught them on spoons and flasher flies trolling with down riggers or Dipsys. Some real nice fish there. Got a 19lb 2 years ago. Look for spoons with greens or purples. Rainbows and browns can be caught in the top 30 feet of water using spoons and stick baits. Look for bait and you will find the fish

The subject when will the Salmon be in this year will be interesting. The past two years we caught salmon on June 9th, this year with the late spring suspect they will be later, but how late? By the time you are arriving, I would fish for browns if not having any luck just move west and run Wicked banks which is probably less than 3 miles from Athol Bay.

As others have said you have one of the best fisherman in the country right where your staying.

Well our first big trip to fish salmon or whatever is biting on Lake Ontario is approaching fast. How has the fishing been? What should we be targeting?

All that I've heard of is the odd brown and a good laker bite. Walleye bite should be good on west lake and I think the bass season opens this weekend also.

Yeah Bass will be open thats our "too windy on lake plan". Really looking forward to getting a couple of Lakers this weekend weather permitting. Four of us are going in two boats so should be a fun weekend.

Well we had a fantastic weekend fishing Lakers off Scotch Bonnet. The weather cooperated and made for a great weekend. Weekend started off at 0300 hrs Friday morning driving from Petawawa to West Lake Willows Cottages. We arrived @ 0700 hrs and were met by Scott. We got all booked in and setup in our cottage and hit the water at 0900hrs. We got into the Lakers around 1000 hrs and my first was a 17.14 beauty. It was a great start to the weekend. Friday we boated 8 Saturday we stopped counting after 20 and Sunday we had 6. We were fishing between 25 to 45 feet with down riggers and Dipsy Diver (#1 green) pretty much was scraping bottom with the Dipys all three days finally lost it on Sunday. What a great fishery Lake Ontario is. I will say Scotch Bonnet had quite the nice smell down wind. Thanks to everyone that helped us to have a great weekend.

Congrats on the weekend. Sounds awesome and yes the bonnet is wonderful when it bakes in the sun for a bit.
