A new series of products are coming from Evinrude. They are saying it is a big game changer in the outboard industry. They will be unveiled June 13-15 in Wisconsin at a dealer launch of the new product. It should be interesting!

Could be, I had heard a couple years ago that they were coming out with a 4 stroke line, a rebranded tohatsu I believe. What they should do is launch a 4 str by bring back the Johnson brand.

I can't see them using Tohatsu since Mercrury re-brands them already. The weight vs horsepower for a two stroke is so much better I don't see why a four stroke would be such a big deal.

What would be really new is a two stroke with an oil sump (like a four stroke). Maybe this new product has the benefit of a wet sump but the performance of a two-stroke? Burns straight gas and you give it an oil change once a year 8) Probably use some kind of air-induction, turbo or supercharger to provide positive pressure at the intake.

Not sure why this has not been done before; two stroke diesels have been made...

cant imagine they would mess with their existing 2 str tech if it involved maintenance. Their biggest selling point is the 3 yr no maintenance. And its not a gimmick, with 3 yr plugs and self winterization you dont set foot in the shop for 3 yrs.

The teaser really suggests something radical, but what?

Maybe a transmission or computer controlled pitch on the prop?

I'd like to see a low compression / high RPM diesel with 30-50% improvement in fuel economy. Should be able to use smaller engines due to better low end torque.

Brian.

Weight vs horsepower is no longer a 2 stroke advantage. I have a Yamaha V-Max SHO 200hp that weighs in at 505 lbs. The Evinrude Etec HO 200hp is 524 lbs. The Etec is a great motor, but imho the SHO is leading the pack and Evinrude needs to step up to the plate. Just sayin...

you are right Little Hole.

ETECs have fallen far behind in the outboard motor race.
