I will be headed to Sandbanks with the family this weekend, could you share some insight on the browns? Where is the closest launch to Sandbanks?
Thanks
Viktor

AL has gone to his hunt camp for a few days not sure if he will get back to you in time but I can fill you in a bit I tried hard for browns yesterday fished 6 hours and not a sniff / in my opinion you might want to switch over to lakers go straight out of wellington find 50 -60 foot of water and start trolling west the browns don't seem to be in close so running a high line out deeper might produce there is a lot of alewife around im predicting an early salmon season . grizz

Thanks for the response. What are the lakers hitting? Where is the launch in Wellington? We have never fished Lake O that far east, we usually just fish for pickerel around Pt. Anne. While I'm picking your brain, is there good pickerel action out of Picton this time of year? It's exciting to fish new places.
Thanks
Viktor

I've attached a screen shot of where the launch is in Wellington. It's off beach st. Target 30-50 FOW for the lakers. Gold and orange spoons seem to be the magic lure. As for walleye. I fished picton area on Saturday. Man was it hot out!!! I launched in napanee and fished all day from the river all the way to hay bay. I targeted 14-20 FOW with a trolling speed of 1.3mph using a bottom bouncer and worm harness. Orange and chartreuse seemed to work best. Alot of perch nibbles (worm murderers) but when you hook into an eye there is no mistake! Look for the sharp breaks and turns on your charts in the depth range I mentioned and you'll do just fine.

Went to McFaul Shoal, East of the Bonnet, tonight for a couple hours after dinner. Targeting Lakers in 50-60fow. Got a couple, both on "Watermellon" with ladders. One was clipped and the other wasn't. The 11lbr had two alewife in it's belly, the 8lbr was empty.

We've caught around 40 lakers so far this year with the average between 8-15 lbs and the smallest around 5 lb, biggest around 25 lb. I would have to say all but about 5 were clipped. Obviously the lake trout stocking program has worked well in this area.

I've also tried a few runs for browns, but haven't been able to find them yet. The shoreline was either too dirty from runoff or too clear and cold the times I went out.

those are great laker results adventure.

remember, there is no water "too dirty" for browns....

when its chocolate milk, run bigger (J13 sized) jointed body baits....

Steve is right. You need stained water for browns. Dirty water is usually warmer in most cases than the gin clear water.

Reports of good catches of browns have been down in this area this spring. I think they moved off shore into the 30 to 40' range. Like Grizz said the alewives are now in on shore in big numbers which will make fishing even more difficult.

Later
Al
