Hey guys,
I have been fishing the bay regularly for a couple years now and am finally starting to have some luck... Thanks to all the generous people who have steered me in the right direction.
My wife caught this brute Saturday night and I could not believe how heavy it felt
We caught it on a rapala about 10 ft down 20 ft of water
How big does it look?

SlowNSteady...My Lord!

That thing looks well in excess of 30lbs+ and what a battle it must have been...reminds me of this saying: "we're going to need a bigger boat"!

Curious to know if there is actually a Sheepie record out there?

Are you going to tell us??

Congrats to you and your wife...

Steve

Well this is where I struggle... The ontario record is just over 21lbs. When I lifted it I thought 30 was a reasonable figure...
Sadly I never thought the need to bring a scale or a tape as we were just going for a quiet evening!!
It was released safely and healthy... I can only dream of catching it on a day when I am prepared.

That indeed is too bad...at least you have a photo to share.

Here's a thought, certainly not an accurate scale but worth trying from the photo for length anyways just for fun...I assume that is you sitting in photo 1 of the big one. Measure the distance from the floor to your kneecap then scale it to the fish. I just measured my leg 20" and scaled it to the photo at 2x plus ...40+ inches!

That's big!

i've caught big drum out in lake ontario. using my personal experience, and also looking at marty coo's fish and aaron shirley's fish, both in excess of 20lbs, (and weighed), yours is likely in the 20lbs range as well...

congrats to your wife....

it musta faught like stink.

I have been looking at those 2 records continuously since we caught that fish and I think I am on par with Martys. However I did think my tail and mouth of my fish were a little larger. (but again, no scale, no tape, no record)
I think I will be kicking myself over this one for the rest of my fishing days :P
Just goes to show you, you never know what your going to catch!
Is it normal to catch sheepies suspended off bottom with rapalas? 4inch rap to be exact
We caught 2 sheepies and 2 walleye within 50 ft of each other on the same lure

This one was 19 lbs.

Great fish you got there. They get a bad rep but man they fight awesome.

What a great catch!! That's a huge sheepie and with all due respect to Marty and Aaron's fish, you aren't 'cheating' for the camera the same way they are...you guys know what I'm talkin' about :) :) Your fish has got 5 lbs at least on those other two fish IMHO. The fact you let it go is admirable, but I'm guessing a record catch. Well done...
