If you plan to mount your new Lowrance HDI Skimmer transducer that came with your Elite unit on your trolling motor you should consider adding a transducer shield for this setup. On the new HDI transducer there is a plastic bracket that slides onto the transducer which is then attached to the mounting hardware. This plastic bracket can be a weak link should you accidentally hit an underwater obstruction.

The best way to avoid doing damage to the mount ($40 to replace) or even the transducer ($130 to replace) is to protect it with a Transducer Shield and Saver TSHDI2. This is by far the best option out there to protect the larger HDI transducer. These and many other Transducer Shield and Saver products are in stock at Radioworld.
