Dead Eel

Fishing at PointAnn this morning seen something white floating went to see and it was an American eel,it was a little over two feet long probably 2 1/2 inches thick.

We got 4 walleye,3 bass, 3 sheepshead and a large crappie.1 walleye was caught on the erie-dearie all the rest was caught jigging.Had several other fish on never got to see them,long line release.

a guy was in the shop today and showed me pics of an Eel he caught at the bay bridge the other day. Never seen one before and hope to never see one lol

thats a pretty good day. not so much for the eel though. Ya they arent my favorite to catch either.

It says somewhere in the fishing regs summary that the MNR would like to be informed if an eel is caught. Apparently their decline is of concern, although I can't understand why.

I caught some last year on the Ottawa and let them know. They wanted the length, girth weight etc. but I didn't have the details. No way I was going to wrangle the thing to get them.

Used to see a lot more of them than I do now.

Yes inform the mnr they are super rare these days they must be finishing there migration FROM THE CARIBEAN OR WHERE EVER THE SARAGOSA SEA IS !!!

ihad smoked eel in the states years ago didn't seem bad at the t ime next day they told me what I ate

It was probably caught of long point or Main Duck, shipped to Europe,smoked and shipped back.

Deep fried one I caught in Deseronto once. It was actually pretty good. They put up an awful fight that's only half over when you get them in the boat. Landing nets are useless and they don't have anything to hang on to. Slippery as eel snot.

If anyone is into sushi on the board, try the unagi rolls. Its smoked freshwater eels and its my favorite type of sushi. The meat is very sweet, firm yet delicate, and a very nice fatty flavor when attached to the skin. Absolutely dynamite smoked, highly recommended if you like to eat fish like salmon, mackeral, sardines, basically "fishy tasting" types of fish.

Those eels won't hurt ya just don't dangle your finger in front of there mouth. I learned that the hard way when I was a kid. I use to go out off Salmon Point with my grandfather taking the eels off his eel lines in the summer from the time I was 5 until I was old enough to have my own eel lines. When I was a kid I use to play with the eels in the back of the boat while my grandfather baited the eel lines and took the eels off, man how I miss those days.

When I was a kid living downtown kingston we use to catch them every time we went fishing of the old boats in the ship graveyard that was by the causeway. Never tried one before but my portugese friends use to be more than happy to take them from us. I though i saw a couple small ones swim by last week on the shore near bath on two different days but now think one may have been a Lamprey.

The guys were going to try for some smelt so OK I'll go with you. I was up on the cliff at West Point and one of the guys was on the big flat rock at the bay where it meets the sandbanks. I shine my light down there and "whats that between your legs" It was a huge eel, and you want to see a guy freak out.
