What area to fish salmon & lakers

New to the area and would like some general idea where to fish for lakers & salmon

In July the scotch bonnet area west of Wellington is where you will want to go. Mid July and August it's possibly to catch kings around main duck island off prince Edward point.

Lakers can be had now and right through summer south of Amherst island, main duck island and also the bonnet

Hog,
We just got back from fishing Lakers off Scotch Bonnet Island. We caught over 30 Lakers just out of my boat with two guys and 4 lines. We fished from 25 to 45 feet of water with 2 down riggers and dipsy divers. We were using an Apex in Water Melon and Shoe spoons (i think that's what they were called) that were green on outside silver in middle with black eye.

Thanks for the Info! What size of boat do you have? I only have a 16 ft Princecraft. Is there a launch nearby?

Most launch out of Wellington to get to the Bonnet. It's about a 15 km run one way on the lake. You can launch in Brighton as well, about the same distance.
You can also catch lakers and browns right out from Wellington if you don't want to make the run on the lake. And depending on where you are, there is also Wicklow which has a good launch just west of Colborne. Port Hope and Cobourg are also popular and a little further west. Like Big Mac said, Amherst Island and surrounding area is to the east and launching is common out of Finkle's.

I'm in a 176 Princecraft and I pick my days carefully depending on winds. South and west winds up to 15 km\h can make for a long trip there and back. Anything over that and I personally don't go.

With a 16ft. I would go as early in the morning as possible as usually flat at that time of day, if not then probably will only get worse as the day goes on. Not always but traditionally the winds will start about 11am and usually from the west and or south west. Monitor the weather closely, I started fishing Scotch Bonnet in a 16ft. boat, but I had a VHS radio, if any of the experienced fisherman said at that time that something is blowing up I was heading to Wellington. I've been out there even in the boat I have now and it can get crazy out there in a hurry.

The last bit of advice always, always wear your life preserver.

I fished out of Wicklow several times in my 16' lowe. I would likely avoid the bonnet as its a far run and if the weather kicks up can be a long ways back. At Wicklow you are fishing with in a mile from shore. I always had good luck in 100 fow to the west right in front of shelter valley. As said, watch the wind and forecast and pick your days. The wind doesn't always settle down at night though so don't expect to be able to fish any given morning. Several times ive seen huge rollers crashing against the rocks in the dark. I agree with the 15 km/hr winds. any thing over and it will get bumpy. A north wind at |Wicklow is the most forgiving.
