The fishing season has been a bit of a bust for RedcapBert as his health has suffered over the summer. To get him on the water was a priority for Laker John & myself.
Sunday's weather forecast looked good with sun and little wind, so we picked my Dad up and headed for Hay Bay. Everything was set, boat was in the water with the tackle ready to go.
Hit the trail to the fishing grounds at 0915 and had the lines in the water by 0930. We had trolled about 200 yards and Bert says, " you won't believe this but I've got a fish!!!!!"
Sure enough, his rod bent and he reeled the fish towards Laker John's awaiting net, Swish!! and the fish was ours.
A real nice 19 inch eye, a perfect start to our expedition.
Trolling along for about 20 minutes thru the weeds and the perch bites, Bert hooks another. Same story, John nets the 20 inch walleye.
As we trolled back towards the ramp at the Old Church, the rod was nearly jerked out of Johns' hands. Whoa, it's a good one, "Here Bert, take the rod says John" Bert feels the strength of this fish as it's taking drag. John nets the fish and the 21 incher at nearly 3lbs 7oz is ours.
As we started again, we met BayBoy and BayGirl out for a mornings fish, grabbed their boat and we chatted for a while and exchanged greetings and tackle tips.
Our Orange Uzick spinners were kicking butt, they had them on their rods also - you can't knock success.
Shoving off and setting the rods, John had a vicious strike and nothing - lost lure - must have been a pike. John put new lure on and off we go, shortly thereafter - John has a strike and the fish escaped as it got close to the boat.
Not too shabby a fishing trip, duration 1.75 hours, 5 strikes, 3 landed - a good day on the water.
Hit the dock, took a few pix, cleaned the fish and headed back to Kingston, mission accomplished - we went fishing and Bert landed some fish. Good stuff!!!!!!
If things work out, we hope to get back out for another crack.
Stay Tuned
David aka Superdad
PS Nice to say hi to Dan Elliot as we motored to the dock, thanks for the info Dan
