On the water today early and it's pretty foggy, slowly get to my spot near Collins Bay and a guy comes on the radio advising that he had a large boat and was proceeding towards Bath and was sounding his horn quite a bit. I was pretty shocked to hear a couple of bass boats go by at warp speed...i can't help but think there ain't a fish alive to risk going that speed in that thick fog. It's just not worth it.

I can tell the sound of a bass boat engine. With gps and a careful eye getting around in the fog isn't hard. I have travelled on the water in fog patches where you hit a thick patch and cant see anything but come through the patch and the day is clear and another patch is just up ahead. Dont know if what happened was that you were in a thick patch and those boats you heard were in the clear patch.

Well I have to say the bass guys do piss me off. Had a nice troll going Sunday and about 30 of them in a 15 min Window all warped over my lines. One almost took out my planer. No respect from them guys. Well some of them.

Well it wasn't patchy fog at all as the large boat I was listening to was talking to the Amherst ferry about the fog thickness as he was moving up the channel. And I have a boat with a big engine and I too can tell the difference in low rpm or high rpm...i knew someone would question me how I knew it was a bass boat.

It was likely the bass boats coming from the tournament in belleville. We met some at the gap sun aft catching air in the waves lol.

I have a cottage on Long Reach and have heard bass boats zing by in thick fog all the time. I figure these guys must be running a radar. That or they're on a death wish.
