Quinte Fishing

Weather permits will be down saturday whats the average depth those pickereyes have been chillin at? I got lots of leadcore and dont wanna start hacking in the morning i would to just drop and go!!! Unless they have been random i dont have enough rods to cover a huge leadcore spread but got three !! Any little morsel of info is cool feel free to p.m. always fishing around the bville area8-)

If you are just fishn Belleville area then you prob wont need leadcore. Its not that deep here. I havent been down fishn the east end so cant help you there but hope to get out this weekend too. good luck

Yea were gona hunt the east end well if the winds are in favor

Haven't been out in the bay yet this year but did pretty good last year using reef runners and td11s on lead core, five colours behind the board.

Rob, that is pretty deep right? Way do you guesstimate 45-50 foot down?

My thinking is the Lead core adds 2 feet per colour, TD 11 drops to 30 ft max, on a perfect day I believe I will max out at 40 ft, I start trolling at 1.6 and speed up to 2.2 mph if no bites at slower speed. This is what I like to use out by Keith's shoal and the bat cave area. If I get out this year ( off work for a right shoulder injury) it will be my 3rd yr and hoping to tune my presentation in. Any tips, tricks or comments are always appreciated.

The chart certainly is a eye opener, but then I have to ask, what is on the end of that line. LIke, would a spoon not be different from a TD-11. The only time I have used lead core is with TD-11 and reef runners and was told 2 feet of depth per colour. If this chart is good for my use let me know or if there is one that I should be using please forward it to me.

that chart is based on a "non diving" bait on the end and trolling at 2.5mph.

when running five colour core and a reef runner or tail dancer you'll be adding 20' for the core on top of the 30' each of those baits dive...for a 50' depth....

maybe even deeper as your trolling slower than 2.0mph generally.

I've hit bottom on the top of keith's shoal with five colour core and a spoon in 35' of water...but that is going 1.3mph.

Thanks for the reply, seems I'm deeper then I thought, I like to start the day with bait about 20 and 30 ft down, then lower as the day goes on.
Time to redo the math

ahhhh don't get overly concerned with the math

just have fun and fish...and when you do find them, use those line counters to reproduce the setups...whatever depth they're actually running at.

Another thing to consider is the bouancy of floater cranks. Can they dive after a certain depth on lead? Whos good at physics lol

Lead core is the most speed dependant line you can run as Steve says the chart is based on 2,5 mph, for each half mph you slow down it has a huge
effect on depth of your bait you must also consider the length of the lead you have attached on the end of the lead core .I was recently fishing a MWC
tournament out of huron ohio on lake erie running 7 colours of lead core with a 30 foot mono lead with a 800 series RR at 1.5 mph and was
rubbing bottom in 72 ft of water . There are some new lead core lines available now with smaller dia that dive deeper than the more traditional one used in the past such as suffix witch i was running on Erie .
