Hi all, I'm local teacher who started a fishing club last year at Holy Cross Secondary. We had a student place 2nd at the Edu-cast tournament last May out of 750 anglers. We've started our second year and our numbers have double to over 50 kids on the roster.

I would like to set up a high school ice fishing tournament on the bay in feb (shermans or the church would be the easiest for access and being close to kingston. I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts, tips , suggestions that might aid in this process.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I'd use Shermans for parking, church is not plowed by the county and if there is snow it's a mess, Big Island has lots of parking and usually good ice then. If your looking to put a bunch of kids on the ice they might be your only options unless you try lakes north of Kingston. You could ask Perfect View if you could park and go out from there. Few thoughts
Tim

Best of luck in setting things up.

Safe ice is number 1 priority.

Other things to keep in mind are transporting students on the ice... will they be walking out, riding on atvs (are they allowed to ride on atvs if a "school sanctioned" event), does your school board require helmets for on ice activities? Will your school board approve students actually going ice fishing? Washroom facilities? Communication plan incase of emergency while on the ice.

Again best of luck. If you get your tournament up and running and it is open to other schools, I would be very interested in bringing down a few of my high school fishing club members.
