Anyone ever have their portable unit fall in the water? With the wind we had last week in belleville, my lowrance ended up in the drink. It was retrieved as soon as I could find it. I've been drying the head unit in a big box of rice... but am worried its a gonner. :( any tips or tricks would be much appreciated as I'm planning a first ice trip up north for trout next weekend. Thanks in advance

Open it up so all parts can get air, put it some place warm for 24 hrs, get contact or mother board cleaner and spray down all electrical/electronic parts, make sure the cleaner is a type that leaves no resadue, let dry another 24 hours before reassemble.
Cheers Rob

I thought they were water proof.

Its a "sealed unit" no screws for opening. Water made its way in through the SD card slot. Hoping for the best by letting it dry for a while in rice

Don't power it up. It can still be OK, but if you power it up and it still has some moisture inside, you could fry it. So I have been told after dropping a digital camera in the creek.

You are doing the best thing for it by putting it in rice. I always put cellphones that went swimming in a bag of rice ( you may want to put your finder in a bag , instead of the box ). Leave it in there for a few days, change the rice if you think all the moisture is not gone.

remove it from the rice and warm the rice every few hours in the oven or microwave. you can also get some large silica packs and put them in the bag as well if you can find a supplier. Throw the silica packs in your tackle box when you are done with them as they will absorb moisture on your lures and help prevent rust.
