Hey gang,

So I've been wondering when those that develop apps and technology-driven devices would come out with a gadget concerning flashers and sonar. Almost all of us regularly hold smart phones in our hand each and every day and these things are like super computers when compared to the technology of even 7-10 years ago.
Recently on my Facebook feed, I saw a product called Deeper. I was intrigued. Finally, somebody had developed a flasher that would eliminate the dial, battery back and a cable connecting a transducer in favour of a small tennis ball shaped apparatus that would float in the hole and connect to your smart device (iOS or Andriod) via bluetooth.
In actuality, Deeper was developed as a side scrolling fish finder but the whiz kid programmers soon figured out that they could re program the app and create a multi-coloured dial like setting.

It's a dual beam sonar that's adjustable through the app and the software has a ton of features including lunar tables, calendars, a picture taking and note taking function, GPS etc.
I told the guys at Deeper this might be a huge game changer considering the price (Deeper is currently listed at $250 us).
We corresponded further and, thanks to my profession, they've taken me on as a beta tester for the new Android software.
I'm going to write a few reviews, shoot some video and really check this thing out. The guys at Deeper are really curious to see how the unit handles ice after it gets two feet thick and what it does in the harsh conditions. I told them if it worked in the BofQ in late January, it will work anywhere.
It arrived at my desk today and I'll let you all know how it works.

Personally I still want my flasher. I find my IPhone battery is brutal in the cold weather as is the case with most batteries like this. It wouldn't last long enough. I also don't want to damage my phone( I phone 6) not cheep! I would most likely drop it in the snow or water or better yet lose it. And to be honest you would need some kind of holder for it or something so you don't have to hold it all the time which would most likely be the case for me as my eyesight is week. It would be a good tool for run and gunning, eliminating the need to unpack your unit all the time to check spots but for ice fishing I still want my flasher. If I'm holding it and get a fish I have to put the phone down to use the reel, or better yet if using two rods then what. It's great to see but a few things would need to change before I would spend the cash.
