Quinte Fishing

curious if anyone has anything to report about north lakes/ice ? I am considering driving north until we find ice, just not sure how far we would have to go to find it.

I was considering steenburg, but it might not be far enough north due to the warm weather we are having.

Any info would be appreciated.

I did just this yesterday get ready to drive 2+ hrs

Been in the Bancroft area for 3 days now on 4"-6" of ice. It's only going to get better after today!

Wow ! nice...

I think you need a sled/atv to get to some of those back lakes though correct ? my buddy and i are on foot and looking for accessibility. gonna dig through the boards archives to see what i can find. I am about to get my boat out of the garage for Quinte soon, tired of eatin cap'n highliner

I've walked to all the lakes I've fished. Pulled the 2 man portables out this morning as it's getting a little cooler out. It's nice to have the heat! Most of the lakes are right off the highways. You just need to do a bit of homework. Lots of lakes are frozen with good ice to walk on south of Bancroft and near the Mazinaw Lake area.

I'm at Crowe lake Marmora and half the lake is wide open the protected areas have 11/2" two hits with the spud and through.

lots of ice out there Iam 20 mins north of kingston and did a recon trip yesterday and 4 of my 5 usual first ice spots had good ice. Look for protected smaller lakes and bays on larger lakes. Obviously shallow water will freeze faster than deep but I find the biggest difference in early ice is finding lakes that are protected from the wind. Lakes that are down in a little valley or are lined with high pine trees are my go to lakes for first ice.

We didn't risk it. I talked to some people in Bancroft and others around Paudash lake and they said not to bother. Now i know some have been out, but we just chose not to.

From a fellow in Paudash; he stated that it wasn't so much that the ice had all melted, but that the wind/warm weather melted and pushed the ice off the shore. So that first 20-40 feet was not safe. They stated up north should be good by Thu/Fri.

We'll be leaving Prescott tomorrow around 4am heading North west looking for a place to happen so will be sure to post results. Hoping to hit a Lake close to a road but not right beside it...Thinking there isn't much snow on the ground so walk ins should be fairly easy. Anybody heading out tomorrow towards the back country? We zeroed in on a few small lakes plan on targeting Splake of Brookies or anything. We should be around Ompaha or Bancroft to Haliburton...lol

Ice is all over up north couch has good ice good jumbos too

I was on 175-200 mm of black ice south of Bancroft today. Took my boys hoping for a trout or two but ended up icing a whack of perch instead. There was virtually no snow when we arrived and got about 150 mm of snow throughout the day. It was still snowing hard when we left and turned to ice rain around Madoc.

That would be 6 3/4-7 7/8 inches of ice and just shy of 6 inches of snow.
