I was down to Massassauga pt this morning seeing i am only a few minutes from there. The Bay was completely frozen all the way across. I tossed a large rock out and it stuck in the ice (1/2 to 1 ") in just 24 hours. Nothing to write home about, but a great start. I will have another look tomorrow afternoon and update.

Took a spud out again to Massassauaga pt, there is 2" of ice just off shore. Bay bridge is still wide open + very thin around Belleville area. West of Bay Bridge is completely frozen up, but haven't checked thickness around Potters. The bay seems to be putting on about an inch of ice a day or so. Won't be long !

I checked a couple minnow ponds around the County today and I was through with one good whack of a spud. About two inches or so. West Lake was blown wide open with the damn wind. I have a tough time thinking there will be fishable ice by the weekend.

3.5" of clear black ice off Massassauga pt this morning. 4" off Petes Point. Both near the shores. I walked out 50 or so feet and took the reading. Won't be long !

Head at the tackle shop that potters has only 3" from guy that was standing around drinking coffee. Can anyone confirm this? With this cold weather it seems that there should be more there. I'm gonna go for a look tomorrow

I will drill a hole off mass point in the AM and update. I would assume there is 4" or so, but will check just to be sure. I was out on a back lake today near Bancroft and there was 6-7" of solid black ice up there.

Went over to Mass pt this AM. Still only 3-4" of black ice. I drilled 6 holes all around the point to factor out the currect and usually poor ice conditions at that spot. I know most view 3-4 as safe ice, but just a word of caution. 3-4 " of ice is near shore, 10 steps away could be 2". You would usually shave off a few inches due to current in some areas just to be safe.
