Fishing - Not Catching Report Fri & Sat

Laker John, my Dad and myself were raring to go on Fri, full of confidence and anticipation of catching a double digit walleye.

Headed out towards the ferry to fish between Q6 & Q4, marked some fish and made four passes over them before heading over the Marina shore and trolling towards the cement plant. Fished from 1015 til 1415 with no results in the boat.

After lunch we headed out for the evening fish in Long Reach, and put in another 3 hours with nothing to show for the effort.

No to be dismayed, we were up at the crack of dawn on Saturday and after a full breakfast, we were off at 0815 to try the fabled waters east of the ferry.

We started fishing at 0845 about two miles from the Light house and we fished the deeper water zigging and zagging across the Strait.

We talked to WIG, Big O, MT and Turkeyman and they were encountering problems with the weeds on the boards and the line. We weren't experiencing that situation.

There were a LOT of boats out there and they appeared to heading towards the 'Gap'.A few fish were reported on Ch 72 and we saw a fish landed.

We saw the light house and the legendary 'Cave' / Boat house. Trolling back along the south shore we decided to head off after trying 15 or 20 lures. We didn't a touch....

We met Holy Toledo at 1145, who had just started and we headed to Picton Bay to have our lunch on the boat and fish some shallower waters. Saw schools of baitfish in the bay and marked some fish but couldn't get a hit.

We headed back to Thompsons Pt - where we marked a lot of fish and those fish had approx 20 boats fishing over them. We fished the west high shore until 1630 and headed back to camp with our tails tucked between our legs.

We thought we knew walleyes - well they can humble anyone.

The Holy Toledo camp reported a catch of three on Dr Death.

A post mortum over a a brown pop with them was most enlightening.

Fishing those deep waters was a first for me in over 20 years of the Bay of Quinte and we were on uncertain ground up there.

You say you never stop learning and we learned a great deal, especially concerning electronics and the application of manual versus Automatic sensitivity. We couldn't see anything with the Lowrance using the wrong settings. D'OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

That's ok because Saturday was a GLORIOUS day, so hot we had to take off the survival suits or melt inside of them. Thought fall fishing was supposed to be tough.

Sunday came early as did the weather forecast on the radio. Predictions of 100 KPH gusts were sufficient for us to make the decision early that we wouldn't fish. Take the boat out with the Explorer for the first time. Boy that 4 wheel drive was super and we had no problem getting 'Superdad' out of the water.

We drove to the ferry and saw the boats out there at 1030 with winds pushing the water. Many boats were in the lee of the south shore. The winds at the Gap were unreal with four footers breaking on the shore. Not a day for the Big Lake.

It's gonna be a while before we get back out on Superdad, may use Laker Johns' boat for a short day trip.

If not, then we'll be at Merlands on Friday at noon(or thereabouts) and we'll give em heck.

Sounds like a tough go all around SD.

We left early Sunday morning after watching a few boats go out. We drove down 33 towards Bath only to second guess our decision, as it didn't look so bad in the middle of the Reach. I'm glad it was the right one as it turns out based on your report!

Still have to try again, I'll be back up the weekend of the 27th with a little luck. Maybe even a day trip somewhere in there too :!:

Hey Fellas,what a tough weekend.Fished 4hrs thurs night,9hrs fri,9hrs sat.We fished east of the ferry,around the ferry,shermans,cement plant,big bay,and just about everywhere else.Well we did`nt even get a nibble,nada,nothing,zilch.We threw everything at them,cranks,spinners,harness`,we even tried jigging for some eaters.Only saw a couple of fish boated.Oh well better luck next year. Cheers.

It's with mixed emotions that I've been reading all the posts about a slow weekend of fishing in the county -- relieved because as rookies we were worried that maybe we were doing something wrong, disappointed because we, like most everyone else, didn't boat a single fish.

We fished all day Saturday and half day Sunday (we got off the water just as things were turning ugly) and didn't even see a fish. Marked lots at various depths, but nothing we tried worked.

I guess that's the way it goes, it was still better than not being on the water and it'll be a long time before anyone can say they were out on the BOQ in short-sleeves on Nov 5th I imagine.

Hope to get back down in a week or two and take another shot at those elusive 'eyes.

Tough day for sure, Wig Scooter and I tried evry thing , deep divers Shallow divers , big baits ,Small baits we slowed down to 1 MPH, we tried up to 2.8 MPH, all for not

, we did pick up a 10.5 pound Sheeps head, not what we were looking for...the weight was right.....just not the right type of fish :lol:

, I was glad to see a few guys picking up a fish here and there . What a change from two weeks ago, we were getting a water temp of 49.3...what did you guys read?? If the water temp was accurate, it's about 10 degrees warmer than this time last year, So I figure the best fishing is well in front of us! I would also guess with the number of boats working the same area in such Calm conditions, scattered the fish, we tried working the less populated water, but to now availe, I'm not to sure what the solution was to fishing Quinte Last weekend, alls I know for sure ....that is I'll be back, at the end of the month to try again

Thanks Superdad for the report. I thought it was just me, we got 2 Tues. Wed. last week. We fished from 7:30 till dark both days. But I'll be back 23,24,25 With about 15 guys from the Stelco club, Tip of the Bay. Stop by if your there and say Hi and have a cold one. Good Luck Bud

So here's a question guys, since early October the pressure on the fish has been increasing. Is it possible with all the anglers that the walleye are warry of the standard lewers now and you're going to have to get more creative?

I read the reports from the mid-Oct fishing weekend when people were getting 20+ fish for the weekend. Most of those fish were released and according to Quinte lore, the fish should be moving or have moved past the ferry and into the bays. This should not mean they have stopped feeding.

Theories?

they are still there....

just look at any decent graph....lots of fish....

but they are spooked....a thousand boats a week will do that to the fish....

your correct about changing up the tactics...

i dont think we will have another week/weekend this year where anglers are catching 20+ fish a day.....

It should start to cool down and hpoefully they will turn on again!!!
