Quinte Fishing

Because I'm retired, I can cherry pick the weather. I went out on Jan 12th because it was 'warm' , -4C,and the wind forecast was for less than 20 kph (for a change).

Parked at Shermans pt launch, walked for a bit and set up by about 1:30 pm or so. Caught 4 in total. One tiny eye, 9 inches, two beauties about 28 inches each and one at 24 inches. The two bigs ones were released.
Missed 2 or 3 more and marked a number of others

About 5 pm the wind shifted into the north and it got real crisp, real quick.

That's as well as I've ever done on B of Q hard water. This was my first time out with my Humminbird 678C (that I bought this past summer). The h'bird has an ice fishing/flasher mode and I now definitely agree that it sure helps to have a flasher when fishing the hard water. Absolutely no doubt when a fish goes by.

There was about 5 or 6 inches of clear black ice where we set up. It was kinda neat that the ice was as clear as glass because you could see the fish going back and forth under the ice as you tried to get it to the hole. It added to the excitement.

Walking was a bit of a slog with average depth of soft snow about 4 or 5 inches with some drifts about a foot deep, and the occasional slush patch (as of the afternoon of January 12th). We saw some quads moving around, perhaps a bit dicey for quADS imho, average ice thickness 5 or 6 inches, perhaps thinner under the deepest snow drifts and in areas with more current. (We were on foot equipped with a spud).

We've had a few cold nights since then so the slush should have frozen and the ice may be thicker. Be careful out there
