Advice on speckle trout fishing?

heading up to Chapleau area Thurs-Sun for 1st time Speckle trout fishing. Any advice on lures, bait, presentation, depth, etc... would be appreciated. tks in advance!

Shallow around 3-6ft deep near sticks or weeds with mud bottom worms and minnows work and small jigs and spoons they really like bugs. Finding a good mess of sticks is your best bet they arnt to picky they have big mouths. Be quiet on the ice or even set lines and stay on shore they can be very spooky

Be there the day before you are going

, it's always the case for me. I have caught them on jig and twister ( black jig/white twister ) and set lines with a minnow and hook, but the day before seems to be when they bite best.

Many years ago, I fished many back woods lakes, although they were a lot further north than
Chapleau, for specks. Being born and raised in the area, found a very reliable bait, that many of
the locals had success with, a small piece of fresh beef liver on a small spinner. Good luck.
