Quinte Fishing

Hey everyone,

I am planning to hit Quinte area this coming weekend and hopefully catch some walleyes.

We have about 3 or 4 guys going together, and we don't have ice machines such as ATVs or snowmobiles. We are straight walkers.

I am not asking for your or anyone's honey holes. But I'd like to know where would be better for us to "launch" onto ice from shore (as far as parking, relatively short walk on ice, and relatively better ice condition at this time of year are concerned)

PS: The previous few winters I ice fished in Quinte areas twice (and stayed overnight at hotel/Avalon Motel in Bellevville), but those are times when I joined other guys who have ATVs/snowmobiles, and at the times we launched from the park off Herchimer Ave (SP ?) in Belleville. But I think from that park it would be a long long long walk on ice?

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and thank you in advance.

This link will give you all the info you need on where to access the ice. Huffs has been good ever since the ice came in. It is off county road 9 coming out of Napanee. You will see it on the map #12.

By the way, I see there is Potters Creek. Is this area good, too (parking and short walking on ice)?

Potters has been a little slow but it depends on time and day. There is ample parking as long as it does not snow (Quinte Conservation office on north side of 2 and parking on soth side of 2) short walk out- good ice. Could also try off big Island and park at Wagners farm (5bucks) long walk out though. Could also try at County Shores (five dollar parking) facilities, and can get minnows on site- ice is about 7" black ice. Bite is on and off pending time of day.

Thanks. By "LONG WALK", you meant say 2, 3 or 5 KMs?

About .6km to the red can...just seems longer sometimes especially when it's cold, but there are spots anywhere from .4km-.6km

Only 0.4KM to 0.6KM (Not even 1KM)? Not too bad then;-). And thank you again!

I would say county shores is a 1km walk. When u finally reach the red can an look back it's a long ways out

Thank you too. I think around 1KM is still a managable/walkable distance. Not too bad, I'd say.

When you're haulin gear and if there's snow, cold and wind....1km is a hell of a hike
And I'm in decent shape for 48 lol

Deseronto. ..straight out from the town boat launch is an easier 'by foot' commute

yes understand. there will be some walk and work out for sure. Thus my question (the first post of this thread) asking where "as a walker with relatively short walk on ice". Then a couple of gentlemen here recommended this County Shores:-)

Now another question. As a backup plan, if fishin' off County Shores is not ideal, and we need to move (return to shore, load up gears, and drive,...), any suggestion where else to head to? Perhaps this "Deseronto. ..straight out from the town boat launch"? Sorry I don't know where this Deseronto town boat launch is.
