This group of guys has been heading to Quinte for the past 3 years on our annual “Quinte Gold Rush” fishing trip. This year’s trip was on held this past weekend and we added a few new members. I had fish the Bay twice a week before the trip and knew that the fish were in a biting mode so our hops were high.

We hit the water Thursday evening and were met with some active fish. They weren’t smashing the bait but we were able to coax a few above the ice for a visit. We ended the night with 7 fish between the 5 of us.

We hit the ice at 7:30 Friday morning and were very happy to see lots of active fish and started hooking up right away. We ended up catching 16 fish between the 5 of us and saw fish most of the day. We moved to a 30’ hole around 1:00 and caught a few nice eaters to past the midday lull. We also put a few hogs on the ice.

It was -22 and windy when we hit the ice Saturday morning. I usually like to roam around a little bit during the day but with winds and temps like this, it was a stay in the hut with the heater kinda day. The fish were in the same kind of mood. They would come by and have a look but most of them just kept on swimming. We did manage to put 11 fish on the ice throughout the day, which I was very surprised about. Just like the day before we hit that deeper hole and found a few active smaller fish to pass the midday lull.

Sunday morning we only fished until 1:00. We set up in the same spots as the last few days in the 26-29 FOW range. It was warm but quite windy. We wanted to roam around a bit because it was +2 but the winds kept us in the huts until 11:00. The first fish was on the ice by 7:30 and it was quite steady from their. The 30 hole was very active today with a few fish caught and more missed. One member of the group got his first Quinte walleye and their were 3 PB caught over the weekend.

Gold jigging raps & gold buckshots took most of the fish.

In all the Quinte Gold Rush 2015 was a success. I can't wait until next year.

Good for you guys. That's a lot of nice fish. Took wifey out today after taking the lil man to day care, so we were later then I would have liked. We ended up with lots of marks on the sonar and a few light bites but no fish. Still better then working today.
