Had the good fortune to fish with hardwaterwalleye aka Dicky on the weekend and he didn't mind that I brought a friend who has been caring for a very sick wife and in need of some time on the ice. Dicky mentioned the area we were going to didn't have alot of fish but the ones that were there were better quality. I marked about 5 fish and they werent in biting mood as they would show themselves and move on. Fortunately for my buddy he found 1 that was in the biting mood and he said it came on to the screen and just hammered his silver pimple with red tape. It was a beauty of a fish and tipped the scales at 11.11lbs The picture doesn't do it justice. Shortly after this fish he lost another monster part way up. On saturday morning we were back out but to a different area. This time no monsters but lots of fish. Ended the morning with 7 iced and 3 lost. Primary bait was the gold sidewinder with a bit of orange on it and jigged hard with long fast lifts letting it rest 2-5 ft off bottom between jigs. When they didn't want that a small black silv buckshot, tipped with 1 minnow, as a follow up worked well. I also had a school of 3-5 whitefish hanging out at my hole for about 10 minutes right around my transducer just below the ice. I could see them through the hole and as much as I tried to tempt them with my bait they were having none of it. The pressure crack at pt anne claimed the front tires of a truck trying to cross over it. Fortunately someone had chains and good tires as after 10-15 minutes they had him pulled out. looking forward to getting back out this weekend
