Hey All,
This is my second year fishing Quinte hardwater. I have fished her from West to East and North to South with moderate success. My question pertains to walleye movements from first ice till spring thaw. Is there a ryme or reason to their movements. Are they generally in the same locations at first ice as they were at the last fall bite? Do the fish follow a specific pattern in terms of movements as the season progresses? If anyone could shed some light on this for me I would appreciate it.

bent poles to all!

I really think the fish just move with the bait without spending any more energy than needed. They hang around until it's time to go make baby walters. Structure could play a part , walleye want to lay in places where meals are easily accesible.

I am sure the people who "know what they are doing" have days where they ask the same question!
I cannot give you any hints on where they are or how to find them except to find a hole and try it! I have been frustrated with the lack of fish I am "icing" this year and therefore have been spending time trying new locations in search of improvements. I recently downloaded navionics to help me locate "ideal" spots but there is never a guarantee...
I have spent many hours on google searching through migration patterns and tactics to help ice fish and I am sure the articles have much truth to them but personally I think it's been "slow".

I pick up where I left off in the fall because I need a place to start. However sometimes finding safe ice is an issue... But come mid ice fishing season it seems I have difficulty getting back on them...

I think there are fish everywhere in quinte... You just need to figure out what they want!!
Good luck!

P.s I could use some advice on finding them too! However you need to figure out what works for you. Too many times I have put faith in advice on a specific area or lure just to come home empty handed. Taking advice may help... But if altered slightly may not work at all... What works today might not work tomorrow...

There are patterns to their movement, generally speaking, but even then the wallys here are effected by the weather patterns. They are effected more so than most lakes / rivers i have fished. Of course i am just throwing "weather" out there, but it could be anything. They can change in an instant. Just get yourself in some deep water, away from the crowds, preferably just off the drop offs and fish away. Don't stay any longer than an hour if nothing, then move. I was out yesterday in 20', pulled in 7 fish, 2 over 10 in 4 hours and lost about the same. I was marking fish every 10 minutes or so on average, so they are there. A gentleman and his kids were down from Hamilton and didn't get a thing right beside me. Presentation, location in that order is how i view it. Sorry, gotta be as generic as possible.

Thanks for the responses! My intent was not to feel out where the eyes are currently biting, however more along making some deductions based on my 3 ice experiences on Quinte as well as my spring and fall trips:). Part of the mystique of it all, unravelling the intricacies. Again, thanks for the tidbits. As always will post a trip review after my next venture out!
