Steve, this is the type of finger pointing that I'm talking about! I personally think your "couple over's every trip " is way off base! Do clients keep fish? Yes! But you would be embarrassed about your statement if you knew the truth!
Also Steve wouldn't it be fair to say that since the early 2000's the amount of attention Quinte gets for fall walleye in general is up? Quinte is busier with boat traffic oct-dec then it is in the heat of summer so to point fingers at the guides is out of line.

Also if you take a close look at the water during the week there are really only 5-6 active guides that are running 6/7 days a week, the weekend however brings out everyone!

You are allowed to think my suggestion is "way off base". Remember, many happy clients post their reports on the many boards on the internet. Add that to the guides facebook feeds and you'll see many fish over 24.8" are kept daily.

If my statement was "way off", I would not be embarrassed, truly I would not be. I would be surprised, but not embarrassed. However, I've seen with my own eyes that my statement is not "off". I wouldn't have said it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.

Your next point, yes. The amount of traffic quinte see's today, compared to the early 2000's, is certainly up. Guides are up proportionally to the traffic.

But, will you admit the the average boat success is drastically down from that early 2000's period, and that is included for guides.

Now I'm not sure how pointing my finger at guides is out of line. Guides catch more fish than rec anglers...substantially more fish. You guys know what the heck you are doing, and are on the water often 7 days a week.

And finally, yes, the weekend brings out everyone. Including the extra guides.

However, everything I said was accurate.

Joe, there isn't anything wrong with guiding. I know how bloody hard you all work. And I know that it "IS" ok to keep a fish over 24.8". But its not ok to put down charity tournaments for advocating the "overs" and then doing it yourselves.

Muskie guides clearly set rules before they get on the water. You cannot keep a fish with most guides, unless the fish is over 55". See if Thorpe or Lazarus will allow you to keep a 53" fish from their boat. It wont happen.

You guys could do the same.

But that is up to you. You are the guide, and the owner of your business.

Just know that when the "public" sees a guide putting down a catch and keep charity tournament, those of us in the public who monitor guides daily catches will see the hypocrisy.

Advertising is a vital component to any guide business. But it can also be a double edge sword.

When the happy clients get to the dock, and line up the walleye for the death photo, then proudly post their catch on five public fishing boards, they are just showing how happy they were with their day. But all the public is looking at the death shot from a different angle.

Again, I'll continue to advise names like Scott and yes, yourself to folks that ask me who to use as a guide. You two work your balls off to get folks on fish.

And if they come back to Hamilton and exclaim about how awesome their trip was with either of you two, and show me a death show with a couple overs, all I will do is congratulate them on the awesome outing.

Because that's what Quinte is famous for.

Also for the record I get passionate about that subject because there are only a few of us that are legit and we support this board year in and out so to tarnish all guides because of a few is not fair!

Being passionate about the fishery is a damn good thing!!!

It shows you give a ***.

That is why I have a tremendous amount of respect for you (and many of the guides that are busting your butts on a cold December day).

The reality with the catch and kill tournament is only a handful of big fish will be caught, its still not that easy to catch big fish. And the majority caught will be eaten not dumped in the garbage like say the salmon derby with staging boots(I lived in port credit people do it). Its crazy all you friends are getting so upset at each other. As long as no rules are broken really there is not worth losing friendships, the tournament will still only allow one fish over the slot and most people catch one or two fish and on average keep what they catch tournament or not.

Griz, it would be a shame if you stopped posting on this board. We need more like you to educate us all so don't be bothered by the uninformed and biaed comments that are targeted at you. Cheers.

Grizz post #2..... Joe and Scott I am truly sorry you guys got sucked into this It was not my intentions When I say Guides I mean all of them in no way was I singling you two out here its just part of the industry.
As a guide (ANY GUIDE) you would naturally look out for your best interest. Back lakes its numbers on Quinte its about big fish and yes BIG fish in big numbers would be an even bigger bonus for any guide on the quinte waters. im sure a guide on a back lake feels the same why keep a 20 inch fish when there is so many 14 inch fish to keep .
when it comes to quinte waters I myself will always think a fish that is between 6-10 pounds is the very most prized fish to put back but that's just me, and I think those fish are the ones kept quite often . in reality all year classes play a big roll in the future of walleye.
Weather any of us think it is wrong to have a big fish derby or not I would hate to see the walleye world derby in spring be a big fish derby where you bring in your biggest dead fish and slap it on the scales and collect your prize I have never fished the spring derby I am not even sure does anyone know if the walleye world derby used to be a killing derby? just think how many times a 30 year old fish has run the quinte gauntlet of death to make a spring spawn Oh lord oh lord please don't bring my azz back as a quinte walleye in a next life!
The average fisherman wants to catch fish many from shore many from a tinny and many with nice well set up fishing boats they all want to catch fish the first fish over the back sets the scale and everyone on the boat wants to beat that fish on that day same with the first fish out of the hole in the ice that's the fish to beat its a macho competitive nature of man so to tell him he cant keep a fish will spark a flame in many who only fish a handful of times each year .
Kill derbies are going by the wayside it used to be common place we cant force people to come around, but they eventually do and its always on there own terms I am pretty sure if a few kill derbies pop up now and then it wont hurt the fish population way I see it is if quinte gets to where a big fish is now only 8 pounds then so be it al long as there is a lot of 4 pounders to catch ill be happy as (or in) my clam!
Again Scott and Joe I never intended to single you out, or drag you into this mess . I would Hope to think you and Joe share over flow charters Scott.... I would not put money on who is better but I can say when it comes to Quinte fishing bar none there is no one better at the trade than you two guys You are both top notch outfits and have worked hard and there for should be proud of who you are, and what you do! Chuck

Thank you for the PM Grizzly. I appreciate it.

Once I get that horseshoe joe has hidden on his boat I'm golden. Until then I watch him waving that net in my chute. Lol.
