You are allowed to think my suggestion is "way off base". Remember, many happy clients post their reports on the many boards on the internet. Add that to the guides facebook feeds and you'll see many fish over 24.8" are kept daily.
If my statement was "way off", I would not be embarrassed, truly I would not be. I would be surprised, but not embarrassed. However, I've seen with my own eyes that my statement is not "off". I wouldn't have said it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.
Your next point, yes. The amount of traffic quinte see's today, compared to the early 2000's, is certainly up. Guides are up proportionally to the traffic.
But, will you admit the the average boat success is drastically down from that early 2000's period, and that is included for guides.
Now I'm not sure how pointing my finger at guides is out of line. Guides catch more fish than rec anglers...substantially more fish. You guys know what the heck you are doing, and are on the water often 7 days a week.
And finally, yes, the weekend brings out everyone. Including the extra guides.
However, everything I said was accurate.
Joe, there isn't anything wrong with guiding. I know how bloody hard you all work. And I know that it "IS" ok to keep a fish over 24.8". But its not ok to put down charity tournaments for advocating the "overs" and then doing it yourselves.
Muskie guides clearly set rules before they get on the water. You cannot keep a fish with most guides, unless the fish is over 55". See if Thorpe or Lazarus will allow you to keep a 53" fish from their boat. It wont happen.
You guys could do the same.
But that is up to you. You are the guide, and the owner of your business.
Just know that when the "public" sees a guide putting down a catch and keep charity tournament, those of us in the public who monitor guides daily catches will see the hypocrisy.
Advertising is a vital component to any guide business. But it can also be a double edge sword.
When the happy clients get to the dock, and line up the walleye for the death photo, then proudly post their catch on five public fishing boards, they are just showing how happy they were with their day. But all the public is looking at the death shot from a different angle.
Again, I'll continue to advise names like Scott and yes, yourself to folks that ask me who to use as a guide. You two work your balls off to get folks on fish.
And if they come back to Hamilton and exclaim about how awesome their trip was with either of you two, and show me a death show with a couple overs, all I will do is congratulate them on the awesome outing.
Because that's what Quinte is famous for.
