12:30am a snowmobile visits my permanent hut. 2 men got off the snowmobile and walked to the hut, then back to the snowmobile, then walked around the hut and back to the snowmobile. When walking back to the hut for the third time the lights were turned on and the men were confronted, "may I ask what you are doing?" Their response was "ummm, we are looking for our friend, ummm, James." Obviously James wasn't there so back to the snowmobile and away they went....very strange! I leave nothing but an open hole in my hut when I leave for this very reason.

Yep and if you were not there they likely would have pickup the other friends as well, Frabil, Strikemaster and Marcum just to start with.
Had a hut taken off the bay back in 2006 .

im sure it was dark but too bad you cant give some sort of description of these guys and a area where this happened it does seem strange as most people arnt out on the ice in there shacks at that time of night numbers off the sled would have been good and then given to the cops. what you witnessed is called suspicious activity it should be reported. we have to watch out for each other boys

Regrettably...not so strange at all. A couple of thieves looking for an opportunity, good thing you were there, too bad you didnt get their sled number or descriptions

It's too bad people like that are out there. That's why I take everything with me. Okay so I have to lug it back and forth every time I go out but it beats having it all stolen. I work hard for the things I own and it just takes one person to take it from you. Blows my mind how they can afford a sled to drive around but have to break in to people's huts....then again, the sled was probably stolen too. I've had my boat stolen from me twice. Thankfully I got it back both times. The first time it was gutted unfortunately. All my rod combos, tackle you name it. It's heartbreaking!

Like I said back in the second post, mine was thieved from the bay in 2006. This is why I am all portable now, I would build another perm if I FELT LIKE TAKING ANOTHER CHANCE but not worth it to me at this time. I will admit some of the best time on the ice was in that shack even when not catching a fish.

Fortunately my hut is on the large side and you need a substantial trailer to haul it. Not to mention loading it lol. But I wouldn't put it past anyone!
