Was wondering if anyone has been fishing on oak lake just outside of Stirling. I live right by it but have always fished the BOQ instead. Just curious what ice conditions are like wouldn't mind trying it some time. Any info would be much appreciated.

Do not fish it myself but if memory serves me right, pan-fish, bass and pike. Very little access to the lake unless you are a property owner. One launch around to the south east side that I know of at Empson Lane and Oak Lake Rd.

Fished there several years ago, stayed at a resort on the lake, owner said pickerel and large perch were abundant and very limited access to lake, so traffic was light. Our party consisted of 6 serious fisherman that drilled over 100 holes and only caught one small perch and a small pickerel. The lake is located on a main snowmobile trail. The snow machines Saturday and Sunday would amount to hundreds and hundreds . If you live close by try it, but I would never recommend driving any distance and pay for lodging. My 2 cents worth.

I believe Tryhard is referring to Oak lake north of Havelock not Oak lake in the Oak hills.

Thanks for the info guys. I've fished it a few times in the summer and have hit some nice schools of crappie, that would probably be the main species I would target through the ice.

I have scuba dove in oak lake before helping out the big slide up. It's is full of like and bass. They swarm u at all times. And once I did a night dive and was told to wait til I got down 10 and turn light on. While decending u could feel fish bumping u. Turned like on and it was crazy 100 or 1000's of mud cats. Would be cool to take the kids in the spring.

I have only caught one crappie there and it was on a black and gold, husky jerk when i was fishing for pike it was a decent slap for sure but what was it thinking. I fish it a few times a year its close and can always catch a few 2 3 lb largies and a few hammer handle pike its a fun little lake to fish for an afternoon with the kids.
