In the past I've had a friend's kids drop my ice scoop down the hole. I've also had other friends lose their keys down the hole after too much to drink. Ever since, I keep a high powered magnet used in microwave ovens stuck to the steel bracket of my Nanook. When I accidentally knocked my scoop down the hole I tied the magnet on the end of my line, dropped it down & retrieved the scoop. I also got back a nice hopkins spoon this way that had dropped down the hole. Won't be caught fishing without it now!

Tight lines

My comedy of errors from last weekend

- I Filled the oil reservoir on my sled, and left the cap on the dash. Rode out to our first spot, dropped my buddy and the hut off, and took a speed run across the lake. oil everywhere! Didn't notice until we went to move spots. Luckily I was able to follow my GPS track back to the truck and find my oil cap about half way back. Lost about 3/4 of the oil.

- On the speed run, or somewhere between then and the end of the day, I lost my sled toolkit out of the trunk. Likely after catching air on a big snow drift.

- Took an unknown route back to shore and hit a huge slush patch. Scared the crap out of my buddy who thought we were going down. Coated the skid and tunnel in slush.

And the kicker, I dropped my iPhone 6 and watched it slide into the hole. I did a number on my knee lunging for it and soaked my arm half way up trying to grab it as it sank. Fun 10km ride back to shore with a frozen arm.

My good luck. Well I actually didn't see it fall in the hole but judging how down my catch rate has been over last year, I must of dropped it

I have been lucky so far this year, hopefully it remains that way. My loss was on the ice not in it and it was the storage bag for my pop-up.
