Hey all,

Lookin' forward to this weekend. :D
Bringin' my dad and uncle out for their first BOQ fall trip. We'll be stayin at Merland and looking forward to meeting many of you, who I feel I already know from reading all of the posts.
Thanks for all of the info.
Last year (Dec. 4) I boated my personal best (11.75) and am hoping to help 'pops' land his fist big one.
Got the boat , lures, planers, survival suits and all the rest of it but not sure if I have the right rods.
Wanted to know what's the best rod for trolling with planers. Currently I only have my Shimano rigger rods... I think these may be too much and won't allow me to feel the fight or the bite for that matter.
Any recommendations?

If you're trolling with inlines or big boards, there is no bite to feel. Oh, and there is no fight either.

Go with your rigger poles, they'll work just fine.

9 foot Shimano Clarus is a nice rod for planer boards. Cost is approx $100.

Not as "floppy" as a rigger rod.

Picked up two Shimano Talora @ Bass Pro last week for $79 ea., 8'6"medium power ans medium/fast action. I used them on the boards last sunday. They are real nice. They had Shimano TDR's 8'6" and 9' in either med/heavy or heavy for $39. They have a good selection, but don't bother asking for help. Personally I like the smaller shops but I needed (wife gave ok!) the rods and my reg shop was out for the season (had to buy before she changed her mind!).

I use the 7'10" Shimano Clarus rods. These are the ones that telescope and fit nice into any rod locker. They match up with a Shimano Tekota 500 LC.
