Replica Mounts: Trophy Walleye

For those who may be fortunate to catch a trophy walleye and conservation minded enough to let it go, what would members suggest as a quality business that prepares replica mounts? Has anyone had any recent experience with a local business who has produced quality mounts? I have been to fishing shows in the Toronto area and have seen some high quality mounts but does anyone know anyone locally that does good work at a reasonable price?

I have a OLD business card from Ron Reynolds in Bath, 613-352-3633.

I know of a friend who had him or his son do a fish, wasn't pleased and they fixed it for him.

It's a start.

I checked out Ron's, which is now located Napanee, and I wasn't totally satisfied for what was to be my first mount. I ended up going to Advanced Taxidermy, north of Toronto, and yes I paid a premium but my table top mount of my 15lb 3 oz walleye was worth it, even if I had to wait one year to have it completed.

I have seen lots of mounts at shows etc, the best replicas I have seen are from Advanced Taxidermy. They are trained, award winning artists that can create a replica that looks real.

replica mounts are a great way to go, if I can afford it sometime I'd like to get a longnose gar replica, with the mouth wide open. might shock some of my relatives up north, I've told them about those fish and they are terrified of them, then to tell them I wet wade through schools of them in the river in july, they get the chills

Nice walleye! How much did Advance Taxidermy charge? Would be nice to have a general idea of cost should I get a fish of that size done

BEMIDJI, Minn. — A walleye sculpture with an estimated worth of at least $100,000 has been returned to the Bemidji Community Arts Council after being recovered along the north shore access to Lake Bemidji.

"Busby's Walleye,'' a one-of-a-kind sculpture, was taken from its outdoor display in downtown Bemidji late Wednesday or early Thursday. The sculpture was recovered Friday night after a local angler spotted it when he went down to the lake check on the ice.

Deputy Greg Winkowski responded to the call and recovered the missing fish sculpture.

Suzi Ross, executive director of arts council, said the sculpture is in perfect condition.

The council is now looking for a secure indoor site to retain Busby's Walleye as an attraction for the Bemidji Public Arts Project.

Busby's Walleye, created by artist Lyle Nichols, was commissioned and purchased by Marty and James Busby of Bemidji, who donated it to the arts council in 2000 to be a permanent part of the Bemidji Public Art Project.
