Last week I took a group of 6 students from Athens District High School for our annual trip to the Edu-cast High School Fishing Tournament near London.
On our way down of Thursday, May 28th we stopped to meet up with the OFAH and MNRF in Cobourg to release the 100 atlantic salmon we hatched in our classroom and to help stock another 10 000 atlantics from the Ministry.
On Friday we participated in the Edu-cast tournament, unfortunately none of my students qualified for the Championship Tournament at the end of June, first time we have not qualified in 4 or 5 years, but they had fun anyways.
On Saturday, May 30th we had our annual salmon charter booked on Lake Ontario, luckily the weatherman was wrong and we did not have the forecasted high winds and thunderstorms Saturday morning.
Unfortunately the salmon were not cooperative and we only caught 3 small chinook between out 2 boats, but the Lake Trout action was steady and we landed 22 lake trout through out the morning.
A big thank you to our salmon guides Greg of Fishing4Tails and Gavin of GetBit Sportfishing for putting us on fish and showing the students a great time. You guys always do a great job with the students.
