Basically the last two weeks have seen water temps if 48 degrees in the Picton harbour and into Picton bay.

Once you get to about the middle of Picton bay it starts to warm up.

I can't for the the kids of me figure out how and why the harbour is so cold. These pictures are from Friday.

Scott,
I think its a couple of factors. The winds have been outta the north a bit lately blowing into picton and combine that with the deepness of the harbour and cold temps. Just a guess

Dan,

That's all I can come up with but the harbour is only 13'-15' deep for the most part and has the creek flowing into it. Yes, we have had some cold nights but we have also had some warm days. Lots of south west winds too (I know because I hate them lol). The reach has been over 60 deg since May 6th or 7th. I just can't believe it.

Under water rip current ?? bringing the cold water from deep into shallow ?
more of a ocean thing. but i do know the lake is still in that 48-52 range.

We have also had very little rain. Rain warms on the ground and travels to creeks carring the heat with it

cold water springs. Seen a number of them flowing into the harbour while out and about in the kayak. Wonder if there are any under the water as well?

Lake Erie is experiencing the same thing . My theory is that the last two winters were very cold . The cold water has simply built up over the last two winters . Im wondering if this will lead to a good fish hatch or year class because of the cold waters . On lake Erie there are studies done to track this . Ive been wondering if the same studies take place on lake Ontario ?
The Scientists say that the cold long winters and spring contribute to a succesful year class .

Yes there are studies done on the spawn on quinte also. The mnr is very active in managing our walleye population including the angler diary program in the fall.

I was thinking there must be an underwater spring or something. Either that or a bunch of people drained their pools at the same time that hadn't warmed up yet haha.

Same for inland lakes. May long weekend temps wer up to 19 C on The Big Rideau. By the following weekend they had dropped to 12 C. May 30 they were up to 15C and this past weekend up to 16C. I have not seen any sign of bass on thier beds yet.
