I switched to 4 Shimano Clarus Trolling 8'3" telescoping rods two years ago so that I could use both my Tekota 300 & 500 series reels. The 500 series base is too large for most standard rod seats. They work very well with planer boards and their handles stand up well to stress of rod holders. Shortly after I first bought them, I had one break in half while pulling in a planer board, but Shimano replaced it after inspecting the rod. Been very happy with them so far.

Daiwa heartland 7"6 walleye planer board rods, about $20 bucks each. 2 piece, which i like because i am not a huge troller and this lets me to keep them stored away in the boat for when i want them.

Daiwa dxw are very nice rods also, i have a jigging version i also use for small mouth fishing. (7"3)

Outside boards I've just used Taloras 8 1/2 10-20lb reason being, sheephead and bringing in those boards from afar on a rod with a little more umph! Inside boards, the 8 1/2 foot 12-17lb Salmon/Steelhead Clarus rod is a mint stick, also enjoy an 8 1/2 foot 12-17 Salmon/Steelhead rod made by Temple Fork. A little lighter than the Clarus in feel, but for an inside board rod it makes any walleye a real treat to reel in.

those outside boards, or even middle boards, take a good strong stick to bring it all back in....

3' waves, december, five colour of core, and a 10lbs walleye, 200' of line from the board to the bait, and 250' of line from the board to the boat....so 450' of line out before fish hits...

you need a good rod to get all that in....

when I'm running a true 6 board, quinte december spread, I use my 9' heavy action clarus rods....and they double right over like a medium action rod when hauling in all those goodies

I use my higher modulus graphite rods (r type, compre tc4, wild river series, etc when flat lining, or single board setups....and in march/april on Lake O for trout, not december).

I'll always remember the one year where we literally snapped a shimano convergence 9' medium heavy right in half, simply reeling in a fish...but when it's december, and your dealing with 3-4' waves, it puts a lot of pressure on those rods.

can't beat a tekota, and tdr's will get the job done 100% of the time.
