Prince Edward power Squadron is starting the basic boating coarse in Jan. if anyones interested, this is usualy one night a week for around 8 weeks and costs around $140.

does anyone feel its wrong to charge our children so much to take this course? I mean when you think about it, its a great idea for any kid or adult for that matter to learn what they are doing before they risk there lives out on the open water but why at such a cost.......... they can buy a book. take a test , and be driving on the road for less of a cost.... Here . its 140 bucks, 8 nights of a parents time to drive the kid to the course, not to mention the cost of gas and no doubt trips to mc donolds before or after......... all in order to teach pretty much what most would call common sence. not to say there isnt alot to learn from the course.... im a 46 year old adult with 30 years experiance on the water in a fishing boat, more than willing to take a FREE course if offered. we would all be fools if we thought we knew it all or everything there is to know....... unfortunaly the cost is only going to go up once its required by everyone to show proof of compitance........... you can lead a horse to water. but if it only has one oar it will no doubt paddle in circles

This coarse would be more suited to you than children and in a sense it is free because all the instruction is done by volunteers, the cost is to make up the expences of the coarse and material.

and some chart and navigation work are all some of the subjects taken in this coarse.
Included in the coarse a student gets to write for their pleasure craft opperators card thats usually $20 + depending on where you get it.
At the end of the coarse there's an exam that takes around an hour.

This coarse is a prerequisite to more advanced coarses in piloting seamanship weather and maintanance.

This would be the coarse you start the kids in as its not as advanced as the basic boating coarse and gets them the opperators card.

Most should thank jet skiers and drunks for the gov't getting involved.

It is unfortunate that this has happened. Once again a few have ruined it for many.

Just an update on the cps coarse, it starts tuesday jan 17 at the cement plant at picton, goes for 2hrs a tuesday night for 10 to 12 tuesday nights. cost $160and 90 for a second person.

This coarse has been available to those wishing to expand thier boating experience from the Prince Edward Squadron since 1957.
