As a lot of the locals know, Amherstview is pretty much right between Kingston and the BOQ

Please sign this petition below so that it can be addressed to the Loyalist Township Council and see if they can take this into consideration

thanks for the supper

Marco. I wish the town of bath would add a 30' floating dock at finkle park. It's a son to stop off your partner when it's rough.

Where would be a good place for a public launch in the view? Houses along bath road.

A few options. Fairfield park, you could turn that area into somethings similar to what is at Finkle

Also, across from the old KOSA/celenease plant could be a huge facility.

The problem is that there would be no suitable location for a ramp. With the way the prevailing wind and current is the location would be limited to use on perfect blue bird sky days. Finkle park already is built on the same type of shoreline and we all know how difficult it is to use with any kind of wind. Another ramp is needed but it would also need a breakwall to protect it. the environmental red tape would be too much for this township to handle. A big business backer would be needed and loyalist just doesn't have one.
Don't get me wrong. This would be a great idea but I don't believe it's a feasible in this area.

you may be right, but right now it doesn't cost anything to bring the idea to the Township and see if it can be arranged.

i hope everyone still takes a moment to sign the petition.

Thanks for the comments, good discussion

Well Marco someone has to pay for your boat ramp. Inorder to have a taxpayer agree to take money out of health care education roads and security funding and build your ramp you need to have a fiscally benifitial reason that the taxpayers will see and realize in the four year term.
Just because the ramp will save you from having to drive from Glenora Ferry or Collins bay is no reason for people to spend the limited funds they have. Show the benifits and they will build it. Yep its all about money. I admire the work you have done but I will say that you need to show me the benifit then you'll have my support.
Good luck with your cause.

A lot of good ideas here. As I don't use any of the launches in question, unless I head out after work with a friend, this does not effect me as much. That being said, I think putting a bit more work into Finkles might be a great idea. It is directly between Glenora and Collins Bay. Fairfield is quite close to Collins Bay so I think that may be a strike against it. They have already addressed the windshield busting dock at Finkles, which is good. However, as mentioned by little dipper, it is exposed to the prevailing winds and a breakwall and an extension would be great. The parking area is excellent with lots of room next to a large park. You have access to some of the best fishing in Ontario just off the launch. This could be a great venue for major bass tournies with all the space and close access to Bay of Quinte and Lake Ontario. How much cash flow does the Kingston Open generate? I think if Loyalist were to promote this and lure in some larger tournaments it could be great for tourism. Thanks for getting the ball rolling Marco.

D-wayne, the amount of cash flow that is taken from my property taxes annually, im sure they can do something :)

its just an idea to get things going. like i said, it costs nothing to bring up the point to the township. even if they had sort of a pay per use idea via a gate system, they could generate money for that. The Ports Harbor charges over 15 dollars a trip. If they had a way of a gate system that was only like $5 to get in that could be a use of generating money to pay for the ramp. ALSO, with the additional revenue of money spend in the township, that money could go towards it too

by all means i dont have all the data and information, all i am doing is putting the bug into the ear of the township.
if you build it, they will come...right?

Pay as you go??? Now that's a joke!!! Sorry but sit at Picton's ramp this time of year and see how many don't pay as you go there! Sorry but that just doesn't work!

Done.
A waterfront community, like Amherstview, should have water access - but it doesn't. As a taxpayer in Loyalist, I would definitely like to see this done.

@ demoman....the Portsmouth Olympic harbor requires the need to pay to use the facility. i think its around 15 dollar plus taxes. guys who pre-fish the kingston open use it for weeks prior to the event. say 7 days, 15 dollars/day is $105 for the week for one boat!

its pretty simple. Keep the cost to use the ramp/parking area at a decent price. Use the same idea of how a parking lot garage works...you pay, gate opens. you enter, gate closes. you leave, scan ticket, gate opens, you leave, you come back another day...THAT'S how you could do it...people are willing to pay for a boat ramp that is worth it. im not saying there needs to be an unreal cost to use the ramp.

say for simple math the ramp gets used 7 times a day for 7 days at $10 per shot, $490 per week. 20 weeks of "prime time" boating season: $9800 for just allowing a truck and trailer to get through the gates. That doesnt include the 49 plus boats that would drive by the gas stations, restaurants, etc on the way to and from the boat ramp. For 10 dollars, and be able to use a safe, reliable boat ramp with parking and amenities near by, why wouldn't you?

Thanks to all those who have supported the idea and all the other feedback that has been given!

this is a great opportunity to spark some decent conversation

Marco
