Quinte Fishing

Jackson and I started an annual 'after final exam' getaway last year. We head up to his trailer on Hay Bay in hopes of finding some open water to fish.

That is an amazing report - not to mention the conditions and your fortitude in finding the fish.

Some might say crazy, but a TRUE fisher will always overcome adversity, especially the weather.

They say that unless the weather makes the fishing tough the fishing will be better.

Sorry to hear of the financial troubles with the vehicle.

Was Gilles with you guys or did he show for the ice fishing?

Yikes! Just noticed that Jax left his dock in. Was this by accident A few years back we left Helen's dock too close to the water on shore and the ice came up and grabbed it and mangled it beyong repair.

Another great report Steve. I always look forward to them. I always love that you smile with every fish like its your PB. Even with your balacava on I still bet your smiling under there.

What a brilliant report! How long did it take you to upload the photos, write it, and hotlink everything? That looks like about a four-hour effort....

Damn, I was going to ask where you launched but I recognized the place.

So what was your final count over how many days? Best lure and depth?

Ken, thanks for the kind words....no we didn't 'mean' to leave the dock in the water.....

Gilles was going to take both our docks out, and kinda, well, you know....

Plan is to cut the poles when the ice is thick enough to use a tractor to take docks out.

Superdad, gilles was with us for the ice fishing...he was our guide....

i wasn't going out on that ice without him.

he chose not to join us on the open water.....dont know why, lol.

Pete, thanks for the kind words.....If anything, we were just motivated as heck, and were ready to launch under any conditions....

the first day was too easy, and we were too confident. Thats why mother nature dumped two and a half feet of snow on us....to see if she could stop us.

But didn't.

We were just lucky that everything ended up being safe....cept my tranny.

Did you dare to calculate _______ pounds of walleye caught?? I'm guessing yours was the best trip of the season reported on this board. As I have maintained all along, the best fishing is the latest fishing! You guys deserve the prize - oh, right - you got it. All those "gold prizes" we see in the photos above!

Best Walleye Trip Ever? Definately.

Best Trip Ever. Gotta be up north, in the bush, camping, to be a contestant for best trip ever.

Bravo! 1 fish per hour is quite superb! Very high average size, even for Quinte. I've caught plenty of twelve-and-a-half pounders, but my personal best is a "mere" thirteen-and-a-quarter. However in the heat of battle, I may have released bigger without weighing them.

I can tell you I have guided two fifteen pounders into our boat, the bigger of the two I gave to a girl I had met for the first time [but not the last time] that very morning. Some clients pay in cash, some in kind. [She was the latter.]

Nice numbers, dude. Very impressive. Only with great risk comes great reward.

That was one of the best reports I've seen of a trip in a long, long time. A new definition for diehards of Quinte for sure. Well done guys. Those final days of fishing can be the most rewarding of the year. Great to see some shots of those Reef Runners too. Just picked up a few and noticed that purple one is now part of my tackle selection. Speaking of total weight counts for your trip, I'm not sure there's anywhere else on the planet where you can have the possibility of a 50 lb. bag of walleye where you're counting only 4 fish. That happened to us one evening two years ago (December 3rd), where we landed 6 fish in 4 hours of fishing. Smallest was 11.8, and largest was 13.10. Our largest four fish were all over 12 lbs......12.4, 12.7, 13.1, 13.10 and all caught just outside Picton Harbour trolling DHJ's. The four fish weighed over 51 lbs!! That evening is forever etched in my memory. All fish were released after some quick pics. They keep us coming back year after year.

Now that is hardcore fishing! Great report.
