Marco its $6 here in Picton on a honour system. It doesn't work. If you see the amount of boats that use this launch this time a year , that's a lot of money. I have taken this to our local councillor , but they must think differently about the cost. This launch is open 24/7 , till freeze up, so the cost to man it would not be worth it. Would a swing arm work ? Oh i am sure it would, but would the cost of this along with the upkeep work. I feel if us boaters want continue access to local water then we need to pay. Good luck with getting your launch and if you do I am sure i would use it at some point. Hell I would even pay!!! Lol

Also Marco the county is geared more to cater to the local arts and wine. Yes there is good money coming to the area that stay in the few hotels we have and eat at the local restaurants. But we still are not capturing the full cost of people paying at the boat ramp.

Amherst having a dock so you could slip in cross the road and get some Tims coffee. I've thought how nice that would be especially when it gets cooler.

Budget at least $500,000 the permits, environmental studies, and engineers will scoop up $200,000. And you want to hope it's not spawning habitat for a rare darter or snail.

I do think the old millheaven invista plant property is privatly owned. might be wrong..
There is a old boat launch on that property, thinking east corner.
its been 10 plus years since i have launched there.

The kingston fishing series launches out of ...... the lack of launches is why we don't have one...
people come from all over ontario to fish events such as 1000 islands open, canadian open, etc.
Quinte series no longer allows lake ontario smallmouth.

Step one get the ball rolling. Thank you Marco..

Can funding be raised privately for sure.. fund raisers, go fund me account, etc. Business sponsorship

Can a private farmer with land, build a launch and get away with out all the crap ?? probably and then turn around and make some money.. The amount of private launches on the st.lawrence is crazy, some better then what we have in the kingston area.
i know of one in the bateau canal where they launch a 40 foot poker run boat.

Build a ramp the money will come, i am pretty sure even the quinte series has looked at a location to run small mouth events...
None exist.

Sorry but picton launch isn't very well posted... i have launched there, once, and paid once, cause i was told its a pay launch.. i did see any signage and could understand how other none locals could miss this.

i do get $500-$1000 x 5 times a year, isnt enought money for a town to build a launch for a tournament series, but just a small part of the big pictures. used by other events, maybe even kawanis. small part of the big picture

bang on fireball with your honest synopsis on the whole idea

There could be money available by many options: Government Grants, Business donating money (have the facility named after it), fundraising, tax dollars etc etc

Fishing events that could be held out of a large facility could be: A large walleye event, Renegade Bass could do a Lake Ontario Event, QFS could run a smallmouth event, even FLW Canada could run an event that could have over 100 boats participate. non fishing related could be, poker runs, sailing events, maybe even a location to host Olympic rowing/sailing etc, or even provincial events...the list is endless with a water front facility to host major events!

the possibilities are endless

Marco

I agree the old plant would be a great place for a ramp, although I used it once last year and my truck was easily 20 feet out in the water before there was enough water under my boat to float, very very shallow along that stretch of shoreline. I'm use to getting my feet wet as I launch alone all the time and I have an 18ft boat. But like you said with some work (a lot) it would be a great place for a nice ramp with a dock.

Hi guy!

We really need a ramp at north shore of Adolphus reach somewhere inside of the reach.
I mean stretch at Loyalist highway between Conway and Bay shore road inclusive.
Or new ramp just from east side of Ferry dock at the end of loyalist highway if possible.
Ramps east of Conway would not be usable to cross due to high wind for most of boats in the opening between Amherst island and Prinyers Cove area.
If we have this extra ramp then it does not matter in which direction wind blows. We always have safe ramp to dock the boat.

It's actually a safety concern.
Last year I've heard a boat sunk because of big waves.
It was a nightmare for me to cross ferry bottleneck.
This is the type of argument we need to bring to the table when advocating for new ramp.

We have a map of ramps on the forum.
So we should mark all other ramps ( even private ) we can use in emergency situations. Even the ramp does not have a dock, but shallow enough area near by to ancor the boat and pull it out with the trailer.
Based on Canadian law, we are allowed to cross private property in case of danger.

You are talking about a different area, and there is a launch right by the east side ferry dock.
your also talking about a different township. your talking about greater napanee not loyalist any more.

Picton harbor is very popular for the fall season because its very well protected, with decent launch.
Water is 3-5 feet or more, down this time of year, so lots of those private or small launches are unusable this time of year.

Also the area we are talking about, is a fair bit east of the gap, closer to middle of amherst island (not on amherst).

You do have a good point thou, for are case there is around 18km between finkle park and colins bay ramps. unlike the bay with private access. there is very little if any access in this area. but that being said, in a emergency situation i have no problem, beaching my boat, and waving good bye to it. hoping its still there when i return in better conditions. is there guys that would die before they would do this, for sure....

Launch is on west side of Ferry dock at the end of Loyalist highway.
Imagine the wind 30+ km/hour blowing into this wall.
You will not be able to launch your boat from it or pass into Picton harbor. One of solutions is to create an extra ramp just on east side of ferry dock
My point:
We need to have few ramps that we can safely come to the shore regardless from which direction wind blows and how strong it is. Currently if strong wind picks up from west directions it would be a challenge for all to remove boats from water.
Ideal location for this ramp is in quiter bay east of lighthouse.
This way you can troll in upper part of Adolphos reach.
.

I don't think it's a great idea to drive 18 km by boat across rough waters. Plus amount of gas you spend driving 18 km by boat is much more than by track.
For me the best idea is to have a ramp in the middle north side of Adolphus reach.
For that we can try to ask for cooperation from both municipalities.

There's also the ramp at the camp ground on the north shore of Adolphe reach near lions Island. Loyalist family campground I believe. It's free of charge, protected in the bay, great ramp with lots of parking. I often put my yak in there, great for bass.

There is a launch on hwy 33...... EAST SIDE>>>>>>> Bath east side... picton west side... hasn't moved in last 15 years, showing signs of age, however.
https://www.google.ca/maps/@44.0479923, ... a=!3m1!1e3
This launch fits what you are asking for...

yup, adophlstown park launch, thompsons point launch, old haybay church launch, shermans point launch, list goes on..

This is a different issue, us locals fish here 6-8 months a year. (amherstview is 1 hour drive east of where you are talking about)
What is in that area between picton, glenora area, various haybay and reach launches. is silly compared to what is in the amherstview area... majority of people are forced to travel a hour away to fish water that is in view. we have 2 kingston launches 4 parking spaces. so pick grass creek park or bath.

In relation, we are talking about ajax and your talking about richmond hill.. just a fyi...
18km is current distance between are two options, bath and colins bay.
