My friend and I missed our fall fishing weekend this year, so we're going to do a quinte ice fishing charter. Would appreciate some recommendations from those in the area.

It'll just be the two of us, generally we arrive late Friday, fish Saturday, and leave midday Sunday. Probably won't fish Sunday.

Accomodations and food can be included, or seperate (and would welcome input on accomodations). Probably not interested in sleeping on the ice unless there's showers :).

Would like a decent shack (not like a lot of the crap I've paid to ice fish out of in the past).

Would like a shack with fish, or a hut operator with a decent rep. I know there's no guarantees, but I've spent way too many days looking at a pile of minnows at the bottom of 5 feet of cold water :).

Would appreciate a time frame suggestion as well - I assume mid February is best, but can stand to be corrected.

The above concerns are more important than cheap/inexpensive. We've both big boys, this is our annual trip and I don't mind paying reasonably in order to have some fun, be comfortable, and have a decent chance for him to take home some fish (it's his only fishing trip for the year).

I have a complete ice fishing setup excluding sonar, but I assume it's not worth the effort for me to bother with that. Or maybe I should bring my tent/heater just for a second location at the rental shack?

All input appreciated, and thanks.

I've never hired a guide before, so I'm no help on who to choose, but I would definitely recommend hiring a guide rather than just renting a wooden shanty from an outfitter. Guides will move you around and put you on fish. Being stuck in a wooden shanty, the fish have to find you...lol There are few guides that advertise here on the board.

Good Luck

I would recommend Quinte hard water specialists. I was out with them last year and they are absolutely phenomenal. They will go the extra mile to try and get you fish. I went with high expectations and I left extremely satisfied.

I totally agree, these guys are great!! Been out with them a few times over the past years and they are all great and on top of everything. The biggest thing for me was that they are safe and I like how they are constantly moving around staying on the fish. I got my personal best with them last yr. Its well worth the money just for learning were safe ice is at beginning of year. If you don't have your own set up they have everything, and if you have never used a flasher before great way to learn. Actually best guides I have ever used ice/open water.
