for the sake of ALL anglers who fish Lake Ontario, I hope we see a better year in 2016.

The walleye fishing and salmon fishing had the lowest catch numbers (and size for that matter) in at least a decade.

One new year's resolution: fish for trout! I keep meaning to try for brookies/rainbows on the landlocked lakes but pike and bass keeps calling my name!

Second resolution: go canoe-fishing with my younger daughter more before I lose her to malls, boyfriends and iPhones

Well this seems the perfect topic for my first post on this great board. In late October I finally tricked my wife into buying some property in the area (Big Island - its not right on the shoreline so she believed me when I said it wasn't all about fishing - my plan worked!).

So my new year's fishing goal is to get out every chance I can and start learning all I can about fishing the area. Hope to start with some hard water action if we get any ice (guided to start I'd think for this year). Then starting with my kayak around the big island area and expanding from there. Hope to meet a lot of you on the water - if you ever see a lost guy in a kayak with a pedal drive on it come on by and say hello.
