Targa, some may wonder how a fishermans forum can so easily turn into a debate about civil rights etc., but it is clear to me.
It is obvious that simply sharing fishing secrets is not enough for most,
and that many anglers have a little more to say than that.
Your views are not uncommon. People don,t like being told what to do and what,s good for them. Particularly whilst out trying to have a nice time in an otherwise stressful world.
That,s why discussion boards like this are so valuable.
Many compliments and thanks to organizers and the moderator for
your efforts.

I think at this time last year the cop that you guys met on the weekend was fishing for duck hunters at amhearst, and I know he'd rather be catching fish than bodies. This gentleman has also given a lot of time to the Prince Edward power squadron, so he does care if you drown or not.
Generally if you don't try to give the cops a hard time they won't give you a hard time. He could be going hard on you because you are in small open boats in extreme weather, a dangerous combination.

A life jacket that dosn't fit.....a guy drown in the bay when his buddies pulled the life jacket of him trying to get him back in the boat.

No whistle ... the story is a man lost his family whith a rescue boat close by that couldn't hear or see them in the dark, when your too exhausted to yell for help you can still blow the whistle.
Boat went down this summer in west lake in the afternoon, the occupants swam to shore with two boats in the area that didn't offer assistance.

How many of us have come close to running over some idiot with no lights.
Not wanting to be preachy but there is some reason to the new regs.
As for lisencing, what is it every second household owns a boat? Of coarse its a tax grab! How could they resist?

I don't have a problem wiht the OPP. I know and appreciate the guys doing their job. If any one mistook my message any different, they mis read it.

I am very grateful for them carrying out their job to the fullest. As far as I can tell, I was the only one who got a ticket. That was my own fault, I did not have any ID nor as much as a fishing licence on me. I am grateful for only being charged with the number violation.

(I am writing this just in case the OPP monitor this site).

By the way, I will be in a bright purple boat with a samsung motor trolling off the shoal at Big Island. Just in case they would really like to "bump"into me on the weekend. hehehehe

Ron...

This fire extenquisher thing has me a bit confused, I have one that meets the requirements for my boat as per the regulations in the Boating Safety Book. If this is not acceptable what sizes do the OPP say is okay. I too agree they can't change the rules for their satisfaction on any given day. I do agree with them though that you definetly need a life preserver that fits and this time of year should be on, even just for warmth of it BR-Br-Br.

Twister, a couple of years ago I was visiting a girlfriend and observed her 3 kids, aged 6,7 and 8 stuck to the TV like alabama ticks and decided to take them fishing to the local warf in order to get them out of the house.
We scavanged up 3 old rods, climbed under the warf and got mussels etc. for bait. We were having a wonderful time (catch and releasing bullheads,
a spiny little inshore species here in Van. Island waters) when the warfinger (caretaker of the dock), an employee of fisheries and oceans
came down , walked right past me and began grilling the kids about fishing licenses. They did,nt know what to say, dropped their poles and went back to the car. I stepped in and tried to reason with this overly-
officious freak, saying we were just piddling around catching bullheads and that it was great for the kids for so many reasons. He said they were,nt to come back without lic. and if I did,nt stop arguing with him he would call in the R.C.M.P.!! Things started to go downhill from there. He was beet red, screaming at me and I was one moment away from throwing his sorry @%& in the ocean. The kids went back to their video games and did,nt want to go fishing any more. But they,ve learned respect for regs. I suppose.
