Parked at Thompson Point on thursday and trudged towards Shermans for the better part of a km.
The bay seemed strangely empty. 3 portables out on the deep water of the reach NW of TP. A couple of portables up near SP. A fair few close to the SP launch. No permanent huts and no vehicles.
I was on foot with spud in hand and screw drivers on my wrists, just in case.
Good thing I was wearing my ice cleats. Half the walk was wind polished grey, bubbly, rough, bare ice. The other half was patches of wind packed snow, typically only a couple of inches deep. The good news is that for wind swept Hay Bay there's not much snow on top of the ice. Where I drilled there was about 2 inches of grey ice on top of 4 inches of black ice for a total of 6 inches.
Fished from 1 pm until dark. Marked fish many times, some seemed to come and take a look, but never even a tap. Tried buckshot spoons and jigging raps in a few different sizes, all with the same result.
Another fisherman came from where he was fishing (closer to Sherman's) and said the same thing: 6 inches of ice, many marked but no takers except some perch. I didn't even get perch.
Tight lines,
pdubya

Dam sorry about the zero
Did you have the jigs spoons tipped with minnows or grubs? My experience is that they are picky like kids. Smell and taste means a lot. Thanks for the post. 6 inches inside the bay can still mean a sliver out in the current

Fully agree with been out a few times lately and 4 to 5 inches can turn to 1 or 2 inches within a few feet then back to 5 or 6 especially to the right of the Sherman ramp very sketchy in some spots especially the snow covered ones so be very careful and spud every step and watch out right of the beginning of the ramp it's messed up to the right and left wish I had a pic to explain better. Just can't say be careful enough it's really bad in some spots and okay in others and try not to fish solo and if you do educate yourself on ice safety and on how to get out once you fall through .
