Just thought I would post this as I thinking it is cool.

As most people know the Navionics app is a great tool for boating and or fishing. A lot people use it on the ice to find break lines, jumps etc that hold fish and to mark waypoints. But, there is another useful way to use the app when you are walking out to you spot.

Let's say your fishing in front of Wagars on Big Island. You can use the app to create a route. This will not only help you walk in a perfectly straight line minimizing the distance you have to walk, but it will tell you roughly how long it will take you to get there and how far you still have to go. Just use 2mph (or slower if the going is rough) as the boat speed in your settings. Here are a few screen grabs as an example.

Tap Route at the bottom of your app

Tap manual route

Tap your starting point

And then tap your destination.

At the top you'll see roughly how long it will take you to walk out there, what the distance is, and your fuel consumption which of course you'll ignore. To the right of that is the little "i" if you tap on that you'll open a window that allows you to edit your boat settings which is cruising/walking speed.

Just thought it might help plan your next trip out on the ice. Be safe out there guys the ice is sketchy at best. No fish is worth your life.

Scott

This is very handy Scott, I use it often for what you spoke of as well as for safety. I screen shot it and send it to my wife or someone to let them know where I am fishing precisely.

Good tip! You could do the same with Google maps, I use it all the time to measure distances between 2 points or even 3 and more then use the formula distance/speed=time

RE: "ignore fuel consumption" The only gas consumed is what I expel after a good bean breakfast!

Land shark,

Sending a screen shoot of your fishing location is an excellent idea. Especially when you wife doesn't know the area. Good as long as your wife's boyfriend is not a Walleye fisherman.

Ha-ha BATMAN. No , he doesn't have time to fish. He told her that he is some sort of superhero that's named after a bird and runs around with some crusader guy
