Walked out about a km this aft. Fished from 3-7pm and nothing to show for it except a couple perch and a 14" eye. Fish didn't seem to be moving around. There were a few others out and a few with quads. The ice where we fished was about 8"-9" clear black ice. I'm pretty sure its not that thick everywhere out there so be careful

Appreciate the info Dan,

I'm hoping to bring the quad next weekend. Big islands my go to spot for safe ice so the inside info is very much appreciated. I always check myself regardless of the reports.

cheers

Walked out from the farm to about 3/4 's of the way across the shoal if you use navionics directly in line from the tower towards the cement plant. Fished in 18-19 ft of water. 9 "'s of ice where I was, another group 75 yards to the west of me was on 11 inches and another group to the east about 350 yards towards Baycrest said they were on 5 1/2. I went 1 for three plus a few perch, the group to the west on the shoal I think he said 2 and the one towards Baycrest 3.

The freak part was when the ice would crack shift and raise, when ice was quiet I was one 18.8 ft of water. The ice would later get noisy and snap crackle and pop, check the graph and for 10 to 15 minutes I was on 19.7 feet of water. Returned back to 18.8 when the ice settled.
