Does anyone know if this area is iced over or it there open water? I was thinking of trying some lake trout fishing through the ice but with the warmer temperatures this year, I am not sure if the reach has frozen over. I was thinking near the Gap or around Millhaven Creek.

You may wish to get in contact with Rob Eves to ask about the ice out there, he's been out.

I was out Tuesday before the rain we got. The ice was 4-6" (in areas that lost all snow there was 4" clear ice in areas where the slush melted there was about 6" half white half clear). we were not close to the gap, I would not trust the ice near the gap this year as the current there is extremely strong at times, there are also risks of sections breaking off and floating away especially with this warm weather opening cracks. Millhaven creek this morning had large sections of open water. I don't yet know how the rain affected the ice. Tonight will bring colder temps though. Hope this helps

Thanks everyone for the replies. It sounds like it may be ok for me to check out. I will just stick closer to the main shore. I may try the ice in front of Finkle's Launch (I think that is the name) this weekend. I will be sure to use extreme caution and I will let you know how thick the ice is and how I make out.
