How long do the browns normally stay shallow in the Sandbanks Athol Bay area?

I think it all depends on the temperature.

with proper colour in the water, we have caught browns in tight up to approx 60 degrees....

once the shallows hit the high 50's, the last of the shore dwellers will make their way out......

(surprisingly not too far however...browns will be seen as shallow as 45' in the summer months, especially if there is steady off shore wind causing a temp inversion)

Last May (mid May) I caught a 8lb brown just east of the ferry in about 30-35 fow. I was trolling deep diver rapalas for walleye, from picton harbour out to the ferry and definitely wasn't expecting a brown that far up the BOQ at that time.
