Stopped in at Skevys and bumped into Hardwaterwalleye aka Rick Sommerville. He was going out fishing for the afternoon bite, scouting for some upcoming clients and extended me an invitation to join him. A quick trip home to grab my stuff and back to meet Rick. We headed over to Big Bay and before setting one foot on the ice I got "The Lecture" from Rick. "Dan do not give out GPS coordinates or any other spot identifying information on your website!" A bible is held before me and I had to place my right hand on it.

We are set up and fishing by 3:00pm and soon after the first fish of the afternoon.

It is a nice 9lber and gave me a good battle. A very ugly fish.

A while latter and after a couple of lost fish managed to get another through the hole.

Then a smaller size school came through and we caught a few of those.

Next a double header.

A few more lost and dusk has set but one more through the hole.

Most of the fish came on the williams whitefish and on the hopkins smoothie tipped with shiners.
Thnaks Rick, really enjoyed the fish and looking forward to doing it again sometime.

What were the ice conditions like on Big Bay? Looks fairly stable, but looks can be deceiving.

Thanks guys,
The ice was good where we were 8-10" but we werefishing some back water areas or still water area where the ice has a chance to thicken up as there was no current. Big Bay has a current running right down the middle of it so take care and use caution. Alot of folks are accessing the ice from big Island.

Great fish!!! Stop by Skevy's again on Fri. the 10th- he should be out pre-fishing for this client!! I'll be ecstatic for "a very ugly fish".

That's right Dan, we where over to big island last Sat. night we counted 72 people out fishing, but I don't know what the ice will be like there now.

Dan: Dickie was our guide back in early January and my brother, nephew and I believe we have a new Canadian friend in this awesome angler. He's a lot of fun to be around and knows fishing.

To Skevys, the bait store, couldn't remember the name, but you guys were great to us American anglers. Thanks and we'll see you in February ... 2007 for another exciting trip to the Bay.

I have pictures of our trip and would love to download them, but don't know how on this site. If anyone knows how, hope they can share. Thanks.
