The channel at the boat ramp has finally been dredged but unfortunately now the city wants to make some money on it and charge for parking.

Do you mean the one off of Kleinsteuber Park Rd?

Well that sucks. Great place to throw my yak in- let's hope this is not the case- but for a moderate fee, I guess it's ok, but if they are going to charge, they also need to maintain it.

Just wanted to send a quick update in case no one had been by there yet. Both the launch at West Lake and the one at East Lake by the outlet are now both charging a "launching fee" of 6 bucks! There is a metal box for money deposit- the one at East Lake looks like it went in quite recently.

Just an FYI folks

Its probably been a few since since I have put my Kayak in off kleinstburger (Sp?) so I've not noticed. But east Lake is certainly new.

Thanks for the update!

The "box" at east lake definitely was not there last year

as of last year the only launches that charged in the county were Westlake and picton this year seems to be different.............. I am wondering when county residents will start to receive a free launch pass with our tax bills???

They did dredge the channel but if you spread the cost over the 4o years or so between dredging it's going to cost more to hire new people to collect the money than it did to dredge the channel, so we have to cover that expense as well and this will be the last one as the wild rice is making its way in. User fee keeps it off the tax bill but increases the cost.

Can you get a seasonal pass that would include all the county ramps or is there just one for Picton.

6 bucks is a pretty good deal if the launch is nice and there is a good amount of parking space. Not sure if this is the case at these launches or not. I fish 2 different Kawartha lakes almost every weekend and 10-15 bucks is the normal price at most launches/marinas. The only launches that I have found that are free have no docks, very little parking, 4X4 truck is required in most cases, and you risk having your trailer lights kicked off by some AHole.

I believe the launch pass is for all county launches.

I wonder who actually collects this money ? I was there this Sat putting my boat in. there must have been 50 boats in = $300. Let alone Sun + the last 3 years they have been charging = $1000's. The hole at the bottom of the ramp Shirley can't cost more than a few bucks gravel... don't call me Shirley !

This is your "thank god your Canadian tax" on top of your taxed tax collected by someone who is taxed that pays tax on the $10 worth of gravel they put in to fill he hole at the bottom of the ramp.

good luck with the free launch pass though ! :)

Wendy (Harbor Master) from the Reel Thing collects the envelopes and the County should put up a sign encouraging "No Power Loading". This causes the hole. Just my two cents
