Had a trip out to the Bonnet today at our first shot for salmon. We were surprised at the number of boats out there first thing. As I'm laid up with a shoulder injury, I played captain while my friend and his brother did the rigging and reeling. We got set up in 120 FOW, 80 feet down and didn't take long for the first one on. We had 2 dipsys and 2 riggers with a combination of meat, flies and spoons. There didn't seem to be much preference as everything was hit at one time or another. We ended up going 5 for 9 with two around 8 lb, two around 12 lb and one around 22 lb. The smaller one is currently marinating in peppercorn, sea salt and maple syrup and heading to the smoker tomorrow night for supper. The larger one is back swimming. We were on the water around 7:30 and off at 1:00. Last fish was taken on the way back in. No doubt, it was a great first salmon trip out.
But, the fun is over and back to work tomorrow. And that's ok, because it's days like this that sure make one appreciate how lucky we really are.

Great salmon guys!

Salmon fishing at the Scotch Bonnet has been excellent the past week, hopefully they will stick around for a few more week.

Good to know that you let the 22lbs one go. Such a beautiful fish and it's more complicated to cook than a smaller one IMO.
