It's been a while since we had the Superdad out to fish. All repairs were completed and we're off to fish.
Fished on Saturday with my second eldest grandson and his Grandmother and we trolled Mallory Bay with about eight other boats and saw one net over the side, we landed a solitary perch. Not a great return to the water.
My youngest grandson arr'd on Monday and on Tuesday, we hit the water and found the westerly winds blowing to strong to fish Shermans Pt, so Plan B was to find the lee and troll over by the Old Church.
Started in 'Party Cove' and headed down wind, trolling past the Old Church, we landed in 9 feet of water when a strike was felt. The rod was passed to my youngest grandson and he began an epic struggle with a fish. He brought the fish to the boat and I was able slip the net under the first walleye of his life.
His Grandmother didn't know who was happier, him or his Grandfather.
We got the scale out and fish weighed 4 lbs 4 oz - what a way to start a fishing career.
Smiles and hugs all around
We reset the lines and continued down wind and the 9 year old said, "Grandad, I think I got one"
He sure did, all by himself, he reeled and reeled and raised the fish to the surface and I scooped and the fish was ours
The scale showed a 4 lb and 2 oz walleye, this beats his P/B of two years ago by almost a half pound. Everybody was happy.
It was a Super day until I tried the motor and the battery went 'Clunk' - thankfully the kicker was going and the Auxillary power brought us home. A visit by the OPP on the way added to the young lads total experience.
Investigation showed it was a dead cell and therefore a Dead battery, passed on to its maker, bereft of life it was cast into the sea of dead batteries at Wal-Mart.
Having the two boys on the boat and both catching really nice fish made the trip and the visit a top notch event in the Grandparents lives.
I sincerely hope that many of you will experience the same joy that is caused when grand children join the world of fishers.
I wanted to say that both fish were caught on the Orange Uzick Spinner that I had made.
Stay Tuned,
David aka Superdad
