Well, the weather and winds were sync, so the fishing trip was on. Laker John & I launched at Finkles and headed to the Gap to check water temps, looking for the optimum walleye water.
We found it to be at least 40 feet down in 90 feet and thought that might be a stretch, so we headed off motoring slowly to see if we could find the fish. Couldn't find a mark.
So we scratched out heads and wondered what the 'Pros' would do. So we set four rods with different lures and began a winding troll. With the combination of lures we had out, speed was critical. We pulled in the lures that needed a slow speed and replaced with crank baits of different colours and types.
In less that 15 minutes, the outer board fired and we had a fish on..... I was able to get the board and line around the inner board and slowly brought the board to the boat and then the fish to the boat. John slipped the net under the beauty and she was ours. What a great fish for Sept. A lovely 8lb 4oz eye.
We changed the lines to the same lure(Different colours) and reset the rods. A couple minutes later the inner board fired and John was into a fish, not pulling as hard but nonetheless a fine species came to the net - a SM Bass tipping the scales at 4lb 4oz. A real nice bass for my wife.
We continued trolling and I brought in a 4 lb pike, then the board went backwards with a fish. It was John's turn and he said, "whoa it's a big fish" Sure enough it was big as I slipped the net and brought it into the boat. Undid the hooks and got the scale, 9lb 11ozs - another Sept beauty.
We let the fish recover in the livewell and when she was ready, I shot her into the water and way she went.
Quite a start to Fall Fishing..........
The days total was 8 fish, 3 SM Bass, 3 pike (Biggest around 10lbs) and the brace of walleye.
We called it a day at 1430 and back to the ramp, load the boat and back to Bayview at 1550.
The fish were located in 20 - 27 feet and all were caught on Deep Diving Husky Jerks - a standard walleye lure.
We'll be back in a couple weeks to seek more of those walleyes.
