Well fellow fisherman I have good news and not so good. I hate bad news and I hate dwelling on it, so lets get it out of the way first. The reports coming back to me on ice are not favorable by no means. My business is really suffering because of this weather but I will not lead people astray just to make a few dollars. The only guys that are going out on what ice and coming back to me are saying that big bay in front of big island has 8 to 10 inches of ice but not good hard ice. Herkamer (spelled like it sounds) I have no reports on as far as the bite goes but again ice conditions are not favorable. Now the good news...... There are fisherpeople (myself included) that are fishing open water by boat and offshore. The ladies and guys that are boat fishing are nailing some nice big fish and a few eaters. Offshore... a few close friends and myself are having a unbelieveable time catching huge steelhead (rainbows) , browns and walleyes. With all the water coming down the local rivers we are having great runs of steelhead coming in.If anyone is interested in a day or more for some good offshore fishing give me a call and I will set it up. Some more good news is that long range forcast (next week) the cold weather is on its way. I guess this depends on which radio or t.v. station you contribute to. But I have heard and seen from the weather station network we are going to get it. So I would say that anyone coming from a distance should contact someone localally to find out whether to bring a boat or not. Lets go fishing but lets be save.
